This is how chargers supporting 70W, 100W, 240W work. usb-a may be equally fast as C if the consumer doesn't support these standards. usb-a may be faster than C if it provides currents out of spec, and the consumer is able to use the same. That looks like just a typical switchcraft 2.1mm DC power jack. TCSS (in the USA), TheSaberArmory (in the UK), and several others sell a 3.7v 1a one for 18650 and 21700 batteries (the ones used in lightsabers)

The USB-A port is deprecated and will never have any speed improvements ever again, it’s assigned for the scrap heap and any money spent on USB-A stuff is wasted as that stuff will become more and more useless. USB-C is THE USB port now, and should be embraced as much as possible. The other comments have explained some of the technical advantages of USB-C. But basically it comes down to that USB-C is the one cable that can do everything, it should cut down on all the unnecessary cable types which we have laying around.
