X870E Nova A6 (Ab?) code question
Based on user discussions in a thread by Webjunkie in the ServeTheHome Forums it appears that there is a date dependent bug that causes this behavior on some of the Supermicro X9 boards:
It seems like SuperMicro X9 boards with E3v1/v2 CPUs (X9SCL-F, X9SCL+-F, X9SCI-LN4F, X9SCA-F, X9SCM-F, X9SCM-IIF, etc) will not allow you to enter BIOS if the system date is past December 31, 2020. When attempting to enter BIOS, it comes up with a blue screen, and in the bottom right the error code "AB", which apparently means "Setup Input Wait" per SuperMicro documentation. If you clear CMOS, you can get into BIOS. We've tried with the latest BIOS (v2.3) and also older BIOSes with the same results.
Apparently the problem can be worked around by either clearing CMOS to reset the RTC or by booting an OS and using its tooling (eg hwclock) to set the RTC to a date prior to 2021.
According to their discussion there, Supermicro are aware of the problem:
I just received an update from SuperMicro:
"We are aware of this issue and working internally to address it. I will provide an update once I have more details of BIOS fixes. Please continue to use the manual work-around for now."
I have just received a first untested BIOS version which fixes the bug for my X9SCM-F board from Supermicro. The previous version was 2.3 Now the board is on 2.3a and is working just fine
So you may expect fixed bios versions for the affected boards shortly.

tl;dr - code A6 during function test, should I troubleshoot or finish installing first?
Started on my build today and wanted to check function before installing into case. I installed the Ryzen 9600x into the Nova, as well as the two sticks of Team T-Create Expert RAM (32gb 6000Mhz CL30) and all the SK Hynix P41 Platinum storage (one 1Tb and three 2Tb drives), and the XFX 7900 GRE.
I did not mount my CPU cooler since I new it wasn't going in the case tonight. I didn't want to leave it all exposed (because cats), so I wanted to disassemble and rebox the mobo and GPU. I did not want to mess with cleaning and reapplying thermal paste, so I just tried a function test.
Hooked up the 24-pin cable, 2-PCIe cables to the GPU, and 2-CPU cables to the mobo from the PSU. Used DisplayPort cable from GPU to monitor. Hit power button on mobo and it cycled through a bunch of stuff and in under a minute I saw the EUFI pop up on the monitor. Yay!
Then I saw the mobo settle on A6 for a bit. After a minute or so, the whole thing just shut down. All LEDs off, GPU fans off, only power and reset buttons on mobo illuminated.
I pressed power button again on mobo and again it cycled through different codes, got EUFI screen on monitor, and Dr. Debug settled once again on A6. This time I turned it off myself by long pressing power button on mobo.
Additional details: no operating system installed on 1tb boot drive, this is fresh install of all new parts; did not update bios, I wanted to see what happened with as-shipped bios 3.10
Question: is the A6 concerning at this point of the build? Should I troubleshoot the code before going further, or is this an effect of a non-fully fleshed out install? In that, finish install (CPU cooler, mount in case, install Windows, etc) before worrying?
Hi,
I've builded a new PC with a Gigabyte Z490 Vision D motherboard. I flashed the bios with the F7c version using Q-Flash directly on the motherboard (I read here that the F20a version was problematic).
Everything is in place: CPU, RAM, GPU, M.2, SSD, WIFI card.
The only thing I'm missing right now, and I know it's strange, is a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse. But anyway, I wanted to be sure everything was OK, so I booted it while connecting it the my TV through the HDMI port of the motherboard IO.
The PC boots but nothing appears on the TV, it stays black. I have a code "Ab" on the motherboard, which means "Wait user command in BIOS Setup" as mentioned in the motherboard doc.
I've tried to connect my TV through the HDMI ports of my GPU, but nothing changes, still a dark screen and "Ab".
Do you think there is a problem I should deal with or do I simply need to plug a keyboard in? Seems strange to me…
Thx for your advice.
Hey everyone!
I recently switched to a new motherboard, CPU as well as RAM. I have a slight problem, though.
Normally, I can boot into my old windows install I have had before the switch without problems (I know I should make a new install, but one problem after another), but whenever I enable XMP for my RAM the motherboard only shows the error code "AB" after the restart. This does not go away after multiple restarts either or after waiting for 15 minutes.
Can someone help me fix this please? Thanks a lot in advance!

Basically I turned off my pc whilst it was resetting stupidly and now it gets stuck on A6 error code which corresponds with detecting and installing the SCSI devices. I've basically got to the point where I know I need to get into my bios and change the storage mode, only problem is the pc doesn't even post to bios so I can't change this mode, anyone got any ideas? And I've tried clearing the CMOS using the pins and also the CMOS_SW button and the Reset_SW button.
