Coming from the push 2. I think the Push 3 is everything the Push 2 is but slightly better and updated. It is an improvement even if its small, it is the best version of a Push that they have released. But it comes at a price. If budget is tight, I would just go for push 2. But if you just want the best version of the push available and have no problem paying for it, then just get the 3. Answer from breadexpert69 on reddit.com

Push 3 – a flexible system for making and performing music
November 21, 2025 - Responsive MPE-enabled pads make Push a uniquely expressive instrument. Create nuanced performances with the movement of your fingertips within each pad or across the whole grid, and bring melodies, harmonies and rhythms to life with touch-sensitive step editing.* Pitch, slide and pressure are captured per pad, so gestures become part of the performance rather than an extra step. *Available in Live 12.3 and Push software 2.3 or later.

r/ableton on Reddit: Your thoughts on the Push 3?
July 12, 2023 -

So now that a lot of you have had some time to bake with it, what are your thoughts on it? Especially interested in the people who never had a previous iteration of push.

I come from Maschine and I've been thinking about going the push round because i hate the workflow of going from maschine to ableton lately and i find myself using my maschine less and less because of this.

I used to have a push 2 years ago but stopped making music and got rid of it. Recently got back into music and got the Push 3, I love it. I have the controller not standalone, and have not had any bug issues. Frankly I don’t see the point of stand-alone, it never leaves my studio, I’m not bringing push to the beach lol. I have had fun using the built in MPE devices in Live 11, and I look forward to more MPE devices being released through packs and community content. I have a small collection of modular gear and an underrated feature of the Push 3 is that the pedal jacks double as control voltage outputs, so I can interface my modular gear directly with Ableton using push. I personally do almost everything in session view so push really works for me, if you spend a lot of time in arrangement view I don’t think it will work as well for you. I have never really liked the pad layout for melodic play on push, I have a keyboard and still use that alongside the push for playing in melodies and chords. But the step sequencer for drums on push is awesome, probably my favorite step sequencer experience. Push also makes it really easy to edit note velocity and note probability, which I have been using more often lately. I use a lot of Ableton stock devices and the push interface makes it very easy to record automation of device parameters in your clips, though this is not as applicable if you use a lot of 3rd party devices. Overall I feel that push really enhances the “live” experience of Live, but I still use keyboard and mouse for tasks that are better handled in that way.

Push 3 standalone opinions a year later
Ask yourself very carefully where you plan to use the Push. It’s a really big device and pretty much needs to be used at a table or a desk. You can save a ton of money if you just don’t get the standalone version. The push 2 and push 3 both work completely fine without needing to look at a screen, you can do everything on the device even though it still needs to be plugged into a computer. More on reddit.com

Push 2 to Push 3, Worth it?
Ask yourself if you feel like you have hit the ceiling with the Push 2. What does the Push 3 offer that you don't already have? How do you think you will utilize it? And is it worth the price tag? I personally don't upgrade unless I feel like I am being held back. Hope that helps. More on reddit.com

Push 3 is insane! Thanks Ableton! 🙏🏻
I just want the MPE and line in, but the fact I could buy the base model, upgrade that to standalone and potentially upgrade the CPU and storage is what is amazing to me. Honestly I feel obligated to buy it just to support those kinds of business practices. That being said really trying not to pre-order lol More on reddit.com

Push 3 Review: Ableton's Grid Controller Evolution | Tape Op Magazine
Unbelievably, there's more: Push 3 has a built-in 24-bit 96 kHz audio interface with ADAT I/O. Yes, it can serve as a multitrack recorder or sampler, utilizing the incredibly intuitive sample-slicing and device conversion workflow central to Push 2 and Live version 9.5 (and above) – it's just that, now, Push 3 is truly an instrument of its own. Note that the version of Live running under the hood is not the same UX as the desktop version, and accessing ALL aspects of the Ableton Live desktop software experience while using Push in standalone mode isn't a reality.

Ableton Push 3 review - What you should know before buying PUSH3 – ABLETON DRUMMER
March 7, 2024 - Ableton Push 3 is designed mainly for electronic music (‘home’) producers. Only a few electronic music live acts will make use of the stand-alone Push3/Ableton Live option. This is due to less (native) options in the Push3 features and design, e.g. no XLR inputs/Mic preamps, max.

r/ableton on Reddit: Push 3 standalone opinions a year later
October 29, 2024 -

I'm looking to get a standalone device and I've been looking into the push 3 standalone, but most of the videos or articles are from over a year ago. I've been on Ableton for almost 10 years, so I'm familiar with the software workflow, but how many of you guys still use the push 3 in standalone and do you recommend it? I'm also looking into some of the mpc live or one devices, but I really don't want to just into a new daw unless it's really worth it. For the record I'm trying to use screens a lot less, so a standard midi controller wouldn't be what I'm looking for.

I jump between sampled hip hop and different types of EDM.

Thanks
