USB-C is pretty smart. The laptop shouldn't pull more than it needs so don't worry about "too much." And you probably don't need 45W all the time so having a little less is okay. I use USB-C to charge my Macbook. I measured the input needed. An old USB-A to USB-C cord does 5W. The Macbook gradually loses power. One wall converter USB-C to USB-C does 15W. It gains about 1% power every 15 minutes. A different wall converter does 27W. This could make it gain about 1% power every 6 mintes. The big white Apple brick, I get 86W or 94W, some models are slightly different, going USB-C to USB-C. I gain more than 1% power per minute. The biggest gain is the Apple brick using the Magsafe connector. That pulls in 140W. This is my Macbook in mostly sitting there doing plain web browsing. If I'm playing a lot of video or running VMs the usage goes up. Most days I just use the 15W charger, because I'm fine with a very slow charge. I even prefer it because it will put less strain on the battery. But if I'm doing something that needs a lot of power, I pull out the 27W or even 94W power. I don't think I could even make my Macbook use 94W even trying maximum stuff.
