Hey everyone! My 12-year-old nephew is staying with me for the next 30 days, and we’re on the lookout for some great movies to watch together. So far, we’ve watched The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia, Indiana Jones, Avatar, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the original Star Wars trilogy. He’s loved them all!
We’re looking for similar fun, adventurous films that are age-appropriate and won’t bore the adults. His parents have asked us to avoid anything with sex or nudity, so I’m keeping that in mind. Any new suggestions would be amazing—thanks in advance!
So it’s my son’s 12th birthday in a couple of weeks and he wants to have a few of his friends over for a sleepover. He wants to watch a late night action movie with them. But his stipulations are nothing part of a series and something that his friends probably haven’t seen. Also, it will need to be rated no higher than Pg-13 for reasons.
I want to pick something from the mid 2000s that will be a little out of left field or something so action packed that their tween minds.
Here’s my initial list: Pacific Rim: what’s more awesome than 300 foot robots fist fighting 300 foot kaiju?
Reign of Fire: Matthew Mccoaughey tries to kill a dragon with a fire axe.
A Knights Tale: maybe?
Remember The Titans: not an action movie but a classic sports movie that everyone needs to watch at some point in their childhood.
The kid in question doesn’t mind seeing some blood or some violence since they know it’s all fake. They just like fighting scenes with a story. They really enjoyed Snake Eyes (2021). They liked The Karate Kid (2010) with Jaden Smith, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), and Tron: Legacy (2010) too. Also the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson films but they’re not always in the mood for those whereas they’re more than happy to rewatch the other films mentioned above. They also watched Red Notice (2021) and Bullet Train (2022) except they lost interest during some parts of the former and the latter has swearing in like every sentence. Is there anything else out there that’s a good balance between all these films? Snake Eyes is definitely their favourite so far.
As for shows, the action-y ones they enjoyed include American Born Chinese and MECH-X4. The latter includes fighting robots! I can’t remember if there are other action shows they liked right now.
They also prefer a more modern look. If the show or movie looks too outdated/old/blurry/grainy, they lose interest.
Any recommendations would be appreciated :)
