r/iphone on Reddit: USB-C to Lightning adaptor does not work with earphones
February 19, 2024 -

Hello everyone. I have recently purchased an iphone 13 mini and made the transition from android. Good experience so far. As I have a pair of AKG Samsung earphones with USB-C, which I was using with my previous android phone, I didn't want to invest in a new pair of earphones (or airpods or anything like that), as I wanted to continue to use said earphones. So, I looked up online and purchased a fairly cheap USB-C to Lightning adaptor from McDodo, which would allow me to use the USB-C earphones with my iphone. However, the adaptor seems not work for this specific purpose. It is brandly new, and it works if I try to charge the phone or connect it to a laptop, but the phone simply doesn't recognize the earphones when I try to plug them in. Anyone knows anything about the technicalities of this, and if:

  1. Only some adaptors are specifically made to work with USB-C earphones, and

  2. How can I find them? (none which I checked mentioned anything about this)

Do tizi chargers with a USB-C connection support fast charging of the iPad Pro (2018)? - KH1696
· Yes, tizi charging products with USB-C ports, such as the Tankstelle USB-C, the charging stations with USB-C or the tizi Turbo Charger ULTRA support fast charging via Power Delivery on the iPad Pro (2018). The iPad Pro (2018) has a USB-C port. The tizi flip USB-C cable or the Apple USB-C cable are recommended as connection cables. The use of cheap China cables is strongly discouraged. Cheap cables can only be produced by saving on the copper content in the cable. The copper content of these cheap cables is usually too low and can lead to heating or fire of the cable. · Answer helpful? · Yes

Your Macbook Pro USB-C ports deliver 10W to the cable when connected to it, and that's why these adapters work there. The voltage matches the spec your phone expects, and the adapter you are using it's just there as a simple dumb plug converter. Whereas in the case of trying to go from a power brick output to the phone, you require something to downgrade the voltage along the way, and these cheap devices are not it.

If I use an original USB-C to Lightning cable it won't work, but if I use an old (original) USB-A to Lightning cable it works just fine (even if the cable itself is very used and should be replaced). The USB-C cable works properly with the iPad 8th Gen. I have. What could the problem be? Both cable and adapter are 100% original.

Has Apple’s Lightning to USB Adapter Stopped Working After Updating to iOS 16.5? You’re Not Alone
August 22, 2023 - I’ve confirmed the issue on an iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 16.5, and a third-generation iPad Air and ninth-generation iPad operating iPadOS 16.5. More recent iPad models, such as the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and tenth-generation iPad, aren’t affected by this issue as they use USB-C ports, which the adapter in question wouldn’t be compatible with anyway. As the accessory’s name suggests, the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter is designed to let users connect a digital camera to an iPhone or iPad for transferring photos.

r/apple on Reddit: Why is there no USB C to lightning adapter (vice versa), or .5m USB C cable?
November 13, 2019 -

I have a setup of a 12W iPad charger with a .5m USB to lightning cable plugged into a countertop outlet. This this works perfectly for charging all lightning devices.

I’m thinking about getting an iPad Pro, which has a USB C port instead of lighting. It comes with an 18W USB C charger. So I think no worries, I’ll just get a .5m USB C cable —nope, not sold. Okay, I’ll get a lightning to USB C adapter — sorry, not sold either. What about USB C to lightning adapter — lol.

What’s the point of having a USB C port? So far It has zero benefit for me. Just messes up my setup with extra long unnecessary cables. Why do none of these cables or adapters exist for USB C but were available for lightning?
