I am never sure why it's thought that QR codes are somehow "fluid" or "dynamic" or dependent on server/net data. A QR code is simply a barcode, a complex one that can encode up to several hundred characters of data while still remaining "coarse" enough to be read easily. (When the data reaches its limit, the QR pattern can be so fine that any small printing or display flaw makes it unreadable.) Once generated, all the QR code has, forevermore, is the data that was encoded in it. It will remain readable as long as it is clear enough for a suitable reader/decoder to read and decode it. It does not matter where or how it was generated. The only thing that is "dynamic" about QR codes is when they actually encode an address or URL that can be redirected. Those destination addresses have to remain available, or scanning the code won't do anything useful... just as if you typed in a 'dead' web address. But the codes are permanent and fixed at the moment of creation, and can only be changed by re-generating them with different embedded information. Qrcodes with Indesign
Almost exclusively use InDesign for QR codes for my clients. No complaints. More on reddit.com

QR Codes
No, phone cameras are expecting nothing more sophisticated than a text string containing a URI. Have it point at a custom webpage that provides options, or use something like Linktree. More on reddit.com

It seems to just be an image generator, there's no actual tracking or data provided, and it cannot be changed after the fact. It's the same as just generating one in InDesign or something. With the ones you pay for, it's because of the other tools allowing you to see how often people use it, where they're located, all that engagement data. It also would likely be used as a redirect, allowing you to change the URL if needed later, which means the QR code isn't actually going to your URL but to an address on the service's server which then directs to the target URL. With the Adobe Express feature though, it's literally just a generated image that conveys the URL data directly, essentially like a barcode communicating a number. So no, it wouldn't expire. Did they remove the QR Code tool?
Wait, how did I not know this existed. So am I right in thinking I can generate codes within InDesign without having to use a third party website? More on reddit.com

r/indesign on Reddit: Qrcodes with Indesign
December 17, 2024 -

Hello, I've used qrcode monkey for years and it's been great. Early on there was an option to donate which I used to do, but at some point the donation option was no longer there. Today, I needed to use it and the generator just spins and never resolves. They have a link to a new thing but clicking on it tells me it's a trial period but don't see pricing info. Perhaps the beloved monkey has left. So, Indesign to the rescue.

I'm not completely comfortable with it because I'm used to having the codes as a separate image link. Am I correct in thinking the way to have it as a link is by placing it into Illustrator?

Would love to know if you're using ID for the codes, how it's going, if you like it etc.

Thanks!

What is the best barcode and QR code generator for Adobe InDesign CC 2018? Why? - Quora
Answer (1 of 2): There’s already a plain vanilla QR code generator/editor in Adobe InDesign since version CS6 (2012). Unless you need more settings like a larger or smaller size (accommodating more or less encoded content) or funny patterns, this standard feature works perfect.
