ADP Non-Farm Employment change
ADP much better than forecasts - probably bad for gold.
ADP much worse than forecasts - probably good for gold.
ADP close to forecasts - not much effect.
ADP is also quite weak in its impact, so even in the first two scenarios, do not expect gold to rally or tank simply due to the ADP numbers.
More on reddit.comELI5: What is the difference between 'Employment Survey' and 'Non-Farm Payroll'?
The Employment Survey is just that. They call people and ask about their employment status. So it is a statistical sample, with error rates, much like presidential survey. It should capture statistical data about the entire united states (with the same problems that plague every other surveyor: Self selective groups not having phones/not answering/ etc.) but because it is a small sample, will have statistical error. Plus: Broad Coverage of Entire USA Minus: Statistical and Sample Error. Also Expensive and time consuming to do well. Non-Farm Payroll: They are capturing literal payrolls, from sources like ADP. So it has very complete coverage, but isn't great at capturing new businesses, or small businesses or businesses that manage payroll some other way. Not much by way of statistical error, but certain known groups are under- or just not, represented. More on reddit.com
why the big difference between ADP non-farm (238k) and BLS non-farm payroll (74k) this week?
Difference in methodology. I read in some book (maybe Foreign Exchange Matrix, but I am not sure) that ADP is a very poor predictor for NFP - like there is no correlation at all.

ADP National Employment Report Explained: Key Insights on U.S. Private Employment
April 24, 2026 - The ADP report is published by a private company, not a government agency. But historically, its figures tend to align closely with the official figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The number of people who are employed can tell us a lot about the state of the economy. Total employment and the rate of unemployment are used to determine when the economy is in a recession. The chart below illustrates the monthly changes in nonfarm private employment data since 2002.
