r/feedthebeast on Reddit: AE2 ME System Question

I am building an me system in creative first and am wondering if different cables have different power capacities. eg. glass dense smart covered ect

All of the AE2 cables act in the same way with a couple of exceptions. Your glass cable is your basic starter cable that has 8 channels for 8 separate devices; i.e. interfaces, input and export buses, terminals, etc. The fiber cables can then be covered with wool to give you covered cables that can help minimize visual effects since the glass ones do have an animation on them. Covered cables can then be upgraded to smart cables that can give you a visual indication of how many devices are connected at what points on your cable. This is important because your system will assign channels to devises based off of cable distance from the controller. From this you can combine your cables into dense cables. The change with the dense cable is that it can carry 32 channels, for just as many devices, as long as the cable is connected to a ME controller. Another thing to keep in mind is devices cannot connect directly to a dense cable. You will need to connect a smaller cable for the device connections. There are some other cable devices to note. Toggle buses act as a switch to turn on and off parts of your network. The smaller white glass fiber cables do not transmit information but do allow for AE power to cross over. All of your cables will connect until you paint or dye them into individual colors. P2P tunnels can be used to "condense" dense cables to a couple of channels (one for each side of the tunnel) for long distance connections. P2P tunnels can also be used to transmit energy, fluids, and items from one point to another with infinite throughput. Vein miner and/or ore excavator will destroy an AE network in a heartbeat. Energy receptors and batteries can be placed anywhere on the network and do not use up channels. edit: Devices like interfaces and molecular assemblers can act as cable bridges for up to 8 channels.

Glass Cables - Cheapest cables. 8 Channels. Covered Cables - Slightly more expensive. Different visual look. Needed to craft higher tiers. Still 8 Channels. Smart Cables - Even more expensive. Visually shows the channels running through the cable, so they are invaluable for debugging. Still 8 Channels. Dense Covered Cables - Like Covered Cables, but thicker. Does not work with the multi-part system, so you will have to attach one of the above cables to it before using it that way. 32 Channel transfer (requires a Controller). Dense Smart Cables - Dense Cables that visually show the channels running through it. 32 Channels (requires a Controller). In earlier versions of AE2, these were just called Dense Cables and the Dense Covered variety didn't exist. Basically every block in the mod (Interfaces, Molecular Assemblers, ME Drives, etc.) - Has various functions. Treated as Fluix color. 8 Channels. P2P Tunnels (ME) - "Point to Point" tunnels really need their own full paragraph, but the gist is that the ME variety uses channels (on a sub-network) to transfer up to 32 channels from 1 input to any number of outputs. An Ad-hoc network can support up to 4 inputs (and 4 outputs) to transfer 128 channels through normal cables rather cheaply. At the extreme, Dense Cable with a Controller can transfer 32 inputs (and post-controller split into even more outputs) to get 1024 channels through a Dense Cable. Quantum Network Bridge (QNB) - Wireless and potentially interdimentional connection. Costs a fair chunk of resources to create, and a lot of power to operate. Transfers up to 32 channels. Color System - Each color will only connect to itself or Fluix. You can both separate and visually identify different networks by using different colors. All colors connect to Fluix, including the vast majority of the blocks in the mod. Cable Anchors - Prevent a cable from connecting to something in the direction it is attached. Also makes that cable climb-able. May be desired for Visuals. Used to make Cable Facades. Quartz Fiber - Blocks Channels, but does allow AE Power to pass through. Useful for powering sub-networks. Ad-Hoc Network - A network without a Controller. Has 8 channels to play with. Commonly used for Sub-Networks. Controller Network - A network with a Controller. Each face of the Controller has 32 Channels, and items using channels trace the shortest path they can back to the Controller. Controllers are a free-form Multiblock with various build rules.

Like the title says, are there Facades to cover up AE2 cables? I tried searching in JEI but only found XNet covers and Refined storage covers.

Make cable anchors. Put cable anchors in the up, right , down and left slot of the crafting window. Put facade block you want in the center

First you're going to need to craft a quartz cutting knife it costs two sticks, a certus and a chromatic iron (IIRC). Next you take the cutting knife and craft it with chromatic iron to make 3 cable anchors. Finally you put the block you want the cover to be made of in the middle of a 3x3 crafting bench with a cable anchor above, below and on each side (using 4 anchors). Cable anchors are really handy too, they can keep two lines of cables from touching each other, and they are much cheaper than quartz fiber.
