r/womensfashion on Reddit: Where do you actually shop for decent-quality, affordable clothes?

I keep getting ads for places like CUPSHE, Shein, Cider, etc., and I honestly have no idea where to start. I’m 30Yo and looking for clothes that are cute, decent quality, and not super expensive — a mix of basics, work-appropriate stuff, and some trendier date night outfits.

I’m open to online or in-store, and I don’t need anything super “ethical,” but I’d prefer things that last longer than one wash.

I have bought a few things from Shein/Cider/CUPSHE because the cheap prices are so tempting, but quality seems hit or miss.

My questions:

  1. What are your go-to stores for affordable but decent-quality clothes?

  2. Are there any Shein/Cider alternatives that are better quality but still have the low price tags?

  3. Any tips for shopping sales or finding good-quality pieces without spending a ton?

Thanks in advance — there are so many brands out there and I’m overwhelmed!

r/Frugal on Reddit: Where can I find good, low-cost, NEW clothing?
August 21, 2025 -

Hi y'all. I've been a stay-at-home mom for 9 months now. I'm feeling nothing but frumpy lately. I really want some new clothes, I mean NEW clothes. Most of what I own is at least 10 years old, and the stuff that is new to me came from thrift shops or hand-me-downs. My closet largely consists of goth or emo styled clothing, mostly black and denim and some DIY, which I loved but none of it fits anymore and I no longer have the time to alter, recreate, or make anything. I'm doing a closet cleanout and back to the thrift it's all going. I want new stuff. ACTUALLY new stuff. I need to be able to try it on, as my whole body shape obviously changed postpartum and I have no idea what'll look good on me anymore. But looking around, everything is SO expensive and I don't know what to do. I just want clothes that fit. Any recommendations? I'd extra appreciate some plus-size friendly, alternative leaning recs. Though I know those categories don't go together very often.

Without TMI, I need to save money so I’m looking for clothing stores that are cheap but nice quality. All the online stores that people recommend are still too expensive for me. Any recommendations?

Quality clothing brands that are also affordable?
February 15, 2025 - In other words, most things are ... to mean completely different price points to different people. But two brands I'd point towards are Asket and Community Clothing....

Honestly, go to a thrift store. So many of my favorite pieces (and the ones I get complimented on) come from my local thrift store. I just got the MOST adorable navy cotton gauze dress that is going to be perfect for summer- can wear to work under a lightweight top, as a swimsuit cover up, or traveling to the beach...it's perfect. No size, no branding, the darn thing could have been handmade for all I know. But it's a friggin' steal at $5, haha! Also, really try to be aware of what you like. After my 2nd kid in my early 30s, I just felt so tired and deciding what to wear every day was a drag. I dedicated some time and focus to it (got my colors done, did Outfit Formulas for a while) and while it was a journey, I now know what does & doesn't work for me. Narrowing that down has helped me cut down on shopping because I only buy what works with my current wardrobe. I also don't have multiples of things- I can have a blank tank top, black racerback tank, black short sleeve tee, black long sleeve tee, black blouse, black pullover sweater, black cardigan...but nothing that is an exact match.

My go to affordable brand is J.Crew factory. Don’t pay full price. They have a 40% off sale twice a month. I like them for basic tees and tank tops during the summer. Don’t care if they get sweaty or ruined. I’m also old enough (mid 40s) to really know what I like for my core pieces. This is great because now I can buy my favorite brands, but in the off-season. Shop the sales people. Also, right before Thanksgiving almost every beauty brand has a 30% off sale. I use those sales to stock up for the year.

For some background, I'm 18f and I really hate like 80% of my clothes, it's just that they're really outdated or really childish items that I got when I was younger or that my mom has bought for me. I don't really have a sense of personal style and I would like to play around more with clothes.

I've already removed every item that I don't like from my closet (I didn't throw it away I just put in boxes in a storage closet we have in the house) and just left the things I liked. My closet is now really barron.

I'm not asking for a cashmere sweater for $9.99, I know that's unrealistic. I just want to know if there is a online store out there that sells decent quality clothing at a somewhat cheap price.

I know is a better long term investment to buy great quality items for a higher price but currently I don't have a lot of disposable income and I don't really know what looks good on me or what I like. So, I don't really want to splurge on something that may not look good on me or I wont like a month from now.

Edit:
Thank you to everyone who commented here, you've given me a lot of ideas and a lot of very good suggestions. I'll probably have to write them down and go one-by-one. I definitely did not expect this many comments but it's been a lovely surprise. Thank you again <3.

Clothing prices are out of control and thrift stores are raising their prices too. I tend not to buy a lot of clothes but some of my older clothing items are getting worn down and raggedy now because it's been a long time since I got them (sidenote, turn those into wash clothes for using around the house to repurpose them!).

When you guys need new clothing items, what do you do? What stores are good for that these days. By new I mean new to you they can be second hand or thrift Ed.

Where to find cute yet cheap clothes online and in person stores??

Hii so I'm 5'4, and I have so much trouble finding clothes that fit me. I weigh about 107 right now (however I constantly vary and have a bust of 29.5 I believe? But I do know for sure that I am a size 2 when it comes to bottoms.

I'm just having so much trouble trying to find things that fit me. They usually don't fit my bust or it's too loose on me. I usually find myself going in the kids section for skirts and some shirts which kinda bothers me. Any suggestions??? Where do you guys shop??

Hello! Fashion and personal style has always been difficult for me. Often times I see people on the internet wearing clothes that I like but the clothing is like $300+ for a pair of pants. I don't want to buy from fast fashion brands like Shein or Cider. I also have to wear pretty conservative clothing because I volunteer with kids and teach them how to machine after work. I also tend to be sized in between plus size and the largest straight sizes available. So in short, it can be hard to find cool clothes in my size, that are also conservative enough to wear in a machine shop.

I would love to know where you all like to shop, what is your personal style, and how you developed your style! If you don't have a personal style, or you wear clothes more for function that's cool too! I want to know what qualities you find important in the clothing you buy.
