2 weeks agoWhile I am SO thankful for Ahmed Al Ahmed for his heroic act of disarming the shooter, I feel kinda weird how almost all discourse about the shooting has been centered around him instead of on the Jewish community undergoing a fatal hate crime.
I think it's like how there's a million movies about non-Jews that hid/saved Jews during the Holocaust, and almost none that feature Jews as heroic during the Holocaust, even though the number of righteous gentiles was tiny. More on reddit.com

Australian of the year goes to someone that has given years of service generally. I think Ahmed should get many awards but I don't know if getting it for one act is in the spirit of the award. Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it but I doubt it will happen. More on reddit.com
