Water cooling is for aesthetics or extreme overclocking. You could spend $500 on a water cooling setup just for your CPU and GPU to have midrange binning and you are still stuck with performance as if you were on air. My Noctua U14S has served me for 5+ years now. My 5700x3d barely hits 71/72 degrees under full load and if my room is A/C, 70 tops. I see other people post their water cooling numbers on their 5700x3-D and mine is usually cooler Answer from hebrew12 on reddit.com

So, recently decided to go back to an air cooler from a 420mm Arctic liquid freezer 2. I felt like since I wasn't over clocking (you can't on that chip) I figured I'd remove the variable of an eventual leak or pump malfunction. I was going to just save the cooler for when I make the jump to AM6 since those are going to be more power hungry I'm sure.

Before vs after and I cleaned up the cables a tad more.

Did I make the right choice or it doesn't really matter?

r/buildapc on Reddit: AMD R7 5800X3D - AIO or Air cooler?
February 16, 2024 -

The thing is I bought the G.SKILL Trident Z Neo DDR4 32GB (4x8GB) 3600MHz and now I'm in a big dilemma regarding the cooling part. I feel like if you have a 4x8 kit RAM, it's gonna be tricky to find a cooler that's going to fit and the ones I was looking at don't seem to have enough height clearance (DeepCool AK620/ Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO). Then I started looking at AIOs and even though they look good and practical, I'm still not very comfortable having parts in my system that have liquid in them, which may or may not fail and leak on my build. Either way, I would be grateful for your opinion about this or if you also have 4x RAM sticks, to share your experience/recommendation for the cooler.

What type of cooler should I get for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D?
Going for an AIO liquid cooler is recommended since it provides optimal performance and offers enough TDP for overclocking without worrying about the temperature. However, it is completely based on preference.

Since the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a TDP of 105W, it is bound to reach high temperatures. However, pairing it with a decent CPU cooler, preferably an AIO liquid cooler, won’t be an issue.

Context here:
I live in Brazil and it's summer right now, not always i have my AC on (only when it's unbearable)..

My 5800x3d is being cooled by the first version of Fuma 2 (not rev b) and while it's doing it's thing, i'm still not confortable in let it run at 80º-81º while playing some CPU intensive games (i game at 3440x1440p)...

i know that's whithin the normal temperatura for everyday use, but, still, like i've said: i'm not comfortable...

With all that being said...what AIO or Air cooler would you guys recommend that i could lower those temps to at least 70-75 levels?

i'm already running PBO2Tuner -25 all cores...

Thanks in advance and sry about my english

March 14, 2025 -

Upgrading my build and I'm curious if a 360mm AIO is a waste of budget for a 9800X3D build. My understanding is that it runs slightly cooler than the 7800X3D because they moved the 3D-Vcache below the die which makes it easier to disperse heat.

Looking to build in the Lancool 216 which has great airflow from my research. But is an $100+ lian li or arctic AIO a waste of money when I can get $45 thermalright tower cooler? My pc sits in the loft of my apartment which is often quite a bit warmer than the rest of my apartment in all seasons.

the liquid cooler would probably be like an 80cm asus rog lcII; air cooler would be like noctua or something

looks are kinda important to me and i think most air cooler like the phantom spirit wouldnt fit on my mobo asus rog strix b550f

Choosing the Best CPU Cooler for AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D - TechReviewer
October 31, 2025 - However, from my experience and testing, not all CPU air coolers can handle the same amount of heat. Examining coolers' supported heat dissipation (TDP) in watts (e.g., 180 watts) is crucial for choosing which cooler to purchase. Games and other CPU-intensive tasks can keep the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU at the higher end of its PPT limit (142 watts).

April 8, 2023 -

As title goes, Im going to build using nr200p case which is SFF PC. But It can fit air cooling quite well. Im torn between the two.

Aircooling is better because less point of failure also travel friendly (no have liquid). AIO is better at cooling CPU with less noise but have more point of failure + contain liquid.

If Air cooler can cool 7800X3D with reasonable fan speed and noise I would get it instead of AIO. Any insight?

I just bought a 5800x3d, but I noticed that this cpu does not come with a cooler. I tried looking up which one to get on YouTube but they gave me mixed answered on the cooler that I should get. So do any of y’all have any good cooler recommendation?

Edit: Wow thank all of y’all for your responses, this really helped and I was able to narrow down a great cooler :)

January 22, 2023 - I personally just bought a 5800X3D a few days ago, and its running on my Hyper 212 Black edition. Its not optimal, but in gaming the temps are well below 80C paired with MX-6 thermal paste. The only issue I have with this cooler is all-core workloads, where temps will hit 90C relatively quickly.

I have a Mugen 5 and I get 90C instantly on occt small. Cpu-z bench levels out to around 84 after 5 minutes. Cinebench r20 hits 90c within around 30 seconds.

I have the cpu running 1900if with 1.125 soc so that might be why my temps are so high but I just wanted to poll other users to see.
