September 9, 2024 - We can see that Apple doesn’t have a ton of faith in the noise canceling capabilities of the new AirPods, as evidenced by the fact that only the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) are getting the new hearing health features. If you want to protect your ears or use your AirPods as a hearing aid, Apple only recommends using the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) and not the AirPods 4.

October 16, 2024 - I’ve been able to use the AirPods 4 with ANC over the last few weeks, including on an airplane, and my feelings are… well, they’re mixed. On the one hand, the fact that you can get noise cancellation on base AirPods is amazing. Their hard plastic body means that they can’t make a soft seal like the silicone tips on the AirPods Pro can, so there’s more outside audio leakage to compensate for.

If the audio doesn’t pause automatically, or if you can’t enable Active Noise Cancellation from Settings or Control Center, reset your AirPods. Your AirPods ear tips should make a good seal with your ear canal for the best sound quality and noise cancellation.

September 30, 2024 - It would be nice to be able to activate and reactive noise canceling with them, or change the volume, however. The new features make a great value proposition when you look at their prices. The low-cost $129/£129 variant are still packed with those touch panels and Spatial Audio, and the $179/£179 model adds that lovely ANC. They're easy to find as well. You can grab them from the Apple Store and Amazon, among other retailers. Unfortunately, not everything with the AirPods 4 is such plain sailing.

September 20, 2024 - I just got the gen4 today without anc and I love them they have the best audio quality I have ever heard I should have got the anc but I’m extremely happy with the ones without anc ... Because engineering and the science thereof, is advanced by the blood and sweat of everyday folks. Not a miracle. ... I think the same. I've had mine for like 2 months and though I usually avoid full ANC, it's amazing how good it works. This little things had me googling the physics behind active noise cancellation 🤣 ... Sorry to necro this thread but i picked up 4s with ANC today over AirPods 2 as I already have a pair of WF-XM5s for true ANC but prefer earbuds without a seal for day to day comfort.
