r/airpods on Reddit: 1st gen AirPods Pro turned 5 years old today! And my pair is still standing! 🎧🔥

After having my AirPods Pro 1st gen, I’m shocked how well they’ve aged throughout the 5 years. At first In 2019 I was unsure if almost $300 was worth it at the time. Now that answer is overwhelmingly YES! Recently they fell in a bowl of pasta sauce. So I cleaned them for the first time in 5 yrs. I use Castile soap, hot water and multiple Lysol wipes to then learn that was wrong. Today I popped them in after letting them dry and they still work! Throughout the years these pods and I have gone through a pandemic 3 car accidents, 2 fights, a fall down a down the steps. Also washing and drying twice in my pants pockets. And they still work perfectly fine. Outside of a few scrapes on the case they look amazing. I play basketball, shower, sleep (sometimes) run, hiking once in the blue and etc. they’ve taken a beating and yet they still last the test of time. Outside of scratches on the case and only getting 2.5 hours of ANC. But after half a decade later these earbuds have shown their worth. What do you guys think? Any of you have your OG AirPods Pro?

Hey guys so a few years ago I received apple airpods 1st generation for my birthday. After about 1 year the left airpod stopped working completely. I brought them to the apple store and unfortunately there was nothing they could do and the worker said it was because they aren't made to last in "Canadian weather".

I have a 200$ apple giftcard and wondering if you think it's worth it to invest in a pair of airpods pro?

I've been using the wired earphones from apple for now but I have to replace them quite often as the left airbud keeps dying.

Thanks!

The Airpods Pro 1st Gen still worth it in 2023?
August 24, 2022 - I’ve been using the Nothing Ear (1)s for the past year with my iPhone 13. They were good enough for a budget pair but now it’s starting to fall apart. Want to treat myself to an Airpods pro experience. But the pro 2nd Gen is about $320 in my country and I can get the original pro 1st Gen for $200 here.

Hi I'm looking to get the Airpods Pro and I'm debating whether I should get the Airpods Pro 1 or the new one. Not considering the other aspects like better ANC and battery life, the 1st gen is heavily discounted right now. So to get a feeling of how they sound like, I've AutoEQ my Letshuoer S12's to both of them.

Listening to both tunings, I think I prefer the tuning of the 1st generation. Although it sounds somewhat thinner, I think it sounds cleaner and not as bloaty as the 2nd gen. Obviously since it is just EQ, it might not actually represent the actual case. I've seen many tech youtubers say they sound better but I'm pretty sure it's just because the 2nd gen sound warmer and fuller.

Does anyone here have both of them and may I know how do they actually compare?

March 20, 2023 - I also did upgrade 2 weeks ago from gen 1 pros as apple nerfed the noise cancellation and it doesn’t feel like it has any effects anymore. ... Mine are still working fine from 2019. No audio issues ... I had two pairs of AirPods Pro’s. Had the 1st gen and then 1st gen with MagSafe.

Got mine today (UPS dropped them at 14:00 UTC+2) and they’re honestly a massive step up from the 1st gen. The sound is way clearer and more detailed — on Liszt’s Liebestraum I could actually hear the pedal mechanism for the first time, and the bass in Chopin’s Prelude Op.28 No.4 feels deeper but still natural. On the other side of the spectrum, bad guy (Billie Eilish) hits perfectly, bass feels tight like a tap on the ear, and in Atmos mixes like Blinding Lights (The Weeknd) or Come Together (Beatles remaster) the space and subtle sounds really come alive around you.

Overall: neutral, powerful, and insanely immersive compared to the 1st gen. If you’re on older AirPods Pros, this upgrade is absolutely worth it

Should i buy pro gen 1 or 2022 gen 2? Both new

gen 1: £149.99 my iphone has lightning so i would only have to carry one charger

gen 2: £199.99 usb c

aside from these facts i dont really know much else as i havent had the chance to get my hands on either to test, i care about sound quality and longevity mainly everything else is less important to me.

anyone whos tested both have any advice on which i should pick? thanks

Bought them in January 2023, been 2 years since then. Noise cancelling is just perfect, audio quality is crystal, battery life is still coming in strong after 2 years of heavy usage, and don’t even get me started on head tracked Spatial Audio.

Their durability? Just like a Nokia 3310. Dropped them in a water bucket, no damage. Dropped them in a rain puddle, cleaned them off, still work like new. Dropped coffee on them a couple of weeks ago, it’s like they just got out of the box.

Absolutely perfect pair. They’ll probably outlive my iPhone.

Since I bought my initial pair of AirPods Pro 1st gen in January 2020 it got replaced 8 times - 4 times they were changing individual pods and 4 times they changed both of them. Is there still problems with a quality and rattle after some time or did they fixed it in second generation? I had no problem with a first gen regular AirPods but Pro was a joke for me, I don't want to visit service on a regular basis anymore.
