Hi, I've been a renovations contractor for over 10 years and while I've never installed the Utile system by Maxx, about a year ago we had a client who was very interested so I did do a lot of research into it. From what I've read and watched it seems to be a good solid system that was designed for the DIY market. The install looked to be very straightforward and fairly simple for someone who is even moderately handy. Had our client decided to go that route I would have been confident installing it. I have not looked into the Kohler system at all. Regardless of which system you choose, the most important thing is to make sure to be meticulous in following the manufacturer's directions. This may seem obvious but read through the entire manual before you start working. Watch as many YouTube videos as you can find until you're confident you can pull it off. You'd be surprised how many people just dive in and try and figure it out as they go. That's a recipe for frustration. Something else to consider (depending on where you are) is something like a BathFitters system. This is a company that comes in and installs an acrylic tub and surround directly over what is already existing. No demo, and it's done in a day. I've had jobs where the client has hired our local BathFitters franchise directly and process seemed easy and cost-effective for them (I've never hired BathFitters myself but they've been on my sites a couple times).
