Hi @simocmos  thank you for sharing 17 R4 POST problems.  Dell beep code 5-5-5 = POST encountered Real Time Clock Power Failure, which mean that your notebook has CMOS BIOS battery problem. This is a wired battery assembly, Dell P/N 44YK6 or C8KT2.  Dell beep code 3-2-1 = POST encountered a memory problem. Reseating RAM cards is the usual fix. RAM cards are very reliable, clean with dry, lint free cloth to remove dust/debris and swap into different PCIe socket.   Dell Light code 2,7 = POST encountered Display failure. Reseating RAM cards might be the fix. Run the LCD Built-in Self-Test. Help - 3 2 1 beep code
So, one month has passed and I received the display cable from Aliexpress. I replaced the damn thing (Not fun, but doable) and to my surprise it worked! The laptop and the display turns on and boots into Windows. If anyone else has this problem, do try and replace the cable before replacing the motherboard\giving up, for me at least it saved the entire laptop. More on reddit.com

My sister has an Alienware 17R5 (8750H 1070) and one of the fans on her laptop started making an annoying grinding noise. We opened it, cleaned the fan, and closed it up. Problem is, it now wont POST and it makes 3 beeps, followed by 2, then 1, and repeat.

From what I could find this means a disconnected/faulty LCD. We did disconnect the 40 pin cable so we could disconnect the motherboard, but it dosent seem damaged and we tried resitting it a few times with no success.

Does anyone have an idea would could be wrong? is there another cable I should check that may be the cause of this beep code?

If the beeping started after you took it apart then it means you fucked up somewhere. Hopefully it’s just a cable issue and not a damage / ESD issue. Take it back apart, repaste, and carefully reconnect every cable, every drive, and every memory module.

It continuously does this and just doesn't stop, and once you restart the computer or choose to "repair" it, it brings you BACK to the testing screen, fails, and repeats the beeps. You can't get past it. I'm pretty sure it's something with the hard drive/SSD or what ever, but thought I'd ask people with actual experience. All of the videos I've watched sound more like morse code, what I'm hearing is just pure chaos and sounds nothing like theirs.

Help! I tried to reset my computer because I forgot the pin to windows and as soon as I did my alienware computer immediately started beeping 5 time the stops then 5 more beeps then stops shortly and so on. May 10, 2023 - What model is it? The first noise is a little strange and then it goes to a 3 beep code which used to be a failed motherboard chipset on the older laptops. ... In my alienware 17 r5 that sound means a fan issue.

March 13, 2023 - It sounds like it will most likely be the 5-beep CMOS battery error. Most other beep codes are terminal and won't allow the laptop to boot while you can bypass the CMOS beep code with a hard shutdown and restart.

Hi mattyb3, I am actually in Canada but same difference, the shipping costs wouldn't make much sense. I looked at the costs to rebuild my laptop and decided that it would likely be better for me to buy a new one. But I will continue to explore this old laptop and see what I can learn from it. Thank you for your response. I appreciate the time and knowledge you have all provided me.

The good:  the CPU on these can be replaced. The bad news:  this 7-beep error can be caused by a bad CPU for sure, but far more likely means it's the system board that's bad -- not the CPU. If you are going to start replacing parts, the mainboard would be the first thing to replace -- not the CPU. CPUs very rarely fail.  Mainboards much more commonly do.

Did a cmos reset and power drain after laptop wouldn’t turn on. The second I put in the charger cable the laptop lights come on and then off and I hear a beep sound continuously with no stopping.. I looked for beep codes but I don’t know if it’s 1 beep or something else... the beeping doesn’t stop
