I have been running windows 11 on mine for some time. I like a lot of the new features, and it is a sore spot for me that dell refuses to offer support for a newer (ostensibly better) version of windows for such an expensive piece of hardware that was purchased not long before its release. I have only encountered a couple of hangups. First, the backlit keyboard does not work. Seemingly, it will not work no matter what I try. I think this issue may be unique to my device based on what I've read, but Dell's aforementioned lack of consideration for it's customer base prevents me from getting any help at all. Second, the Tobii software and the HelloFace (both use the ir scanner I believe) work intermittently. I've had to reinstall the software for Tobii several times and I've completely given up on HelloFace. Third, is Dell's commitment to not respond to any inquiries regarding Windows 11. Having spent over $5000 (+ more for continued tech support) on a device that couldn't operate the newest OS a few months after I bought it, I can tell you one thing with certainty: I will never by a dell product again. Dell has not tested and does not provide drivers for Alienware 17 R5 and does not support Windows 11 on Cassini (end of series) Alienware 17 R5 because there is no Alienware 17 R6. Corporate Dell has decided that there will be no further Dell Revision updates, System Board (aka Motherboard) design is just too old. my laptop is an alienware 17 r5 laptop. the specs are:-

killer ethernet controller and killer wifi adapter
when i installed windows 10 build 2004 on my laptop i connected to the internet and i went to the device manager and i had a bunch of devices which didn't have drivers. i waited for like 20 minutes and windows downloaded all the missing drivers by itself and it even installed the intel graphics driver and the basic nvidia driver and then i got a popup which said i have to restart my laptop
is there anyone who has the same laptop as mine and you installed windows 11 on it? if yes then did you do like what i did and you connected to wifi and then went to the device manager and waited? if yes then what happened? did windows install all the missing drivers or it missed some and you had to manually install them?

If win11 compatibility test tool shows you are compatible you can install win11 from scratch then: Step 1: Get Intel Drivers & Support and update through there Step 2: Download your graphics drivers and do a clean install through GeForce.com (GeForce Experience installation) Step 3: Download the rest through dell.com/support

I'm running windows 11 now on mine. In the process of a fresh install from GeForce now. Before I did a hard reset on this laptop to start from scratch. It installed windows 11 automatically upon restart. I've just updated everything thru windows update so far. Now I'm onto GeForce for the other. Not sure how good it will actually run when I'm done bt we will see. Before I kno my cooling fan or one of them was making a horrible noise when they kicked in. I don't hear it now so one either went out completely or just stopped making noise. I will report back once I have it all updated and try to run a game on it or use it a bit. It's a back up old laptop so really wasn't nothing else to do with it. I have the new alienware one and have had zero problems with it. No complaints on it so far. Ab 6 months old

From what I gather, Dell is still validating the older laptops for use with W11, even if they meet the hardware minimums. If you haven't noticed, I don't think any Alienware laptop, other than the brand new X15/17, have received a prompt to install it. I went ahead and force installed it, but my warranty ran out earlier this year. It's Dell's way of saying, you're on your own if something goes sideways because we aren't sure how the hardware will behave if you upgrade.

My thinking is that if the system passes the PC Health Check and the update states that you meet the requirements, then you can safely install Windows 11 and it will work fine. The fly in the ointment is that Dell will not offer tech support unless you reinstall Windows 10. This system has not and will not be tested for Dell compatibility for Windows 11. Now driver wise most if not all Windows 10 drivers should work. After all Windows 11 was designed on top of Windows 10. In my case my MB is MSI and the drivers they released for Windows 11 are exactly the same drivers as they released for Windows 10. Remember that you have 10 days (video here) after installing Windows 11 to decide to roll back to Windows 10.

Hello JOcean! Thank you for your response! My device meets all requirements & PC health check doesn't report any issues!! My query is, why has 17R5 been excluded from tech support for Windows 11? What is it about this particular model that doesn't warrant inclusion of tech support? My device is under warranty until 2023. If an issue were to arise & require tech support not having Windows 10 would make things complicated!

If Windows was installed in legacy mode, the boot drive is in MBR configuration -- UEFI mode (legacy off) requires GPT. While there is a utility to convert the drive, before doing so be absolutely sure you have a tested backup of the contents of the drive -- things can and do go wrong. I recommend you move all your important data to OneDrive online or even a local copy on a USB as windows once installed on UEFI wont boot when changed to legacy. I did know that changing from UEFI to Legacy gave me the TPM option on my area 51m.

Seriously?! If my 4000€ fully equipped AW 17 R5 won't get official support for the new OS just 3 years after it was released, not only will I never buy DELL/Alienware products again, I will probably also sell this one and be done with the brand.

It is not an oversight. The 17 R5 is not the list of Alienware Laptops supported by Dell for Windows 11. So no testing, drivers, or support from Dell.
