Never update a BIOS on an unstable system. Always ensure it is perfectly stable. That is rule #1 of BIOS flashing.Since you are getting error codes you are having some kind of an issue, but it looks like you resolved it by a CMOS clear. If it is stable, and everything works, there's no need to update the BIOS unless you need a feature it provides, or are affected by something it fixes. That is BIOS flashing rule #2.   In your case, I would leave it as is, since everything is working now. Answer from Vanadiel on dell.com

r/Alienware on Reddit: Aurora R11, no power issue
January 19, 2022 -

Previously functioning R11 won't power. No recent physical changes, location change, or trauma. No lights or power when front power button is pressed. BIST turns on the lights and fans (both mainboard and GPU).

Removed all external devices. Moved power connection to a different, known-good electrical cable and outlet directly. Discharged all power by holding the power button. Verified motherboard connections are solid. Still no power.

When I remove the power cord for ~30 seconds, plug it back in and hold the front power button, the LED lights flash briefly once after about 10-15 seconds, but the PC still doesn't turn on. Seems to indicate to me that the power button is working and the issue might be hardware-related, perhaps with the mainboard; however, the positive BIST test makes it confusing. Any ideas or tips would be most appreciated.

r/AlienwareTechsupport on Reddit: Alienware aurora r11 not turning on. Emitting one yellow blinking light.
June 12, 2022 -

After trying to turn on my pc it doesn’t turn on but it does emits one yellow blinking light every 5 seconds. My power supply is getting power because the green light lights up when I press the button on the back. I researched the diagnostic codes and according to the website it means “bios and rom failure”. I took it to the shop and they had it up and running immediately. My computer was working fine after that for a few days and then it started messing up again by not Turning on and blinking one yellow light again. I haven’t took it back to the shop because I managed to get it back up and running a few times on my own, But do anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue ? Idk what’s causing this is happen. And what does bios and rom failure means?

r/Alienware on Reddit: Alienware Aurora R11 not turn on
August 3, 2021 -

My Alienware Aurora R11 was working earlier today, I left it to download a few games and then came back to my pc turn on and off after short time.

I notice the Alienware button is yellow and is flashing a few times. I’ve unplugged for 2 hours and replugged the pc again and it instantly turn on and then turned off, turned on again with yellow flashing and off (repeatedly)

I unplugged the power and pressed the little button in the back to release the energy (I saw an article on Dell website) and then plugged the power back in. I pressed the Alienware button and unfortunately no results.

My warranty just expired last week and this is happening for first time, can someone please help me fix this issue?

r/Alienware on Reddit: Aurora r11 turns on but doesn’t boot up. Please help!
November 29, 2022 -

This has happened before and I’ve already gotten it repaired but it’s happening again and doing a cmos reset didn’t fix the problem.

When I turn on my pc the blue light on the front turns on like normal but nothing else gets powered. The screen doesn’t turn on and I can tell that the keyboard isn’t getting powered as pushing the caps lock does nothing.

When I turn off the pc it flashes an amber light 1 time and it immediately powers off as I press the button.

Does anyone know what the problem to this is? Is it the coin battery being faulty or did dell replace my old motherboard with another faulty one?

I have an r11 as well, I have not solved this current issue that I am experiencing as well, however I have figured out for the most part how to start my pc and get into windows. So fully shut down your pc by holding the power button for 5-7 seconds. Give it 10 seconds to fully power off and then start it up. And soon as the Alienware logo pops on on your screen click f11. After that it should do 1 of a couple of things. It could start the PXE boot where it will try to boot your pc in IPv4 or IPv6. IPv4 is the stock boot option (as far as I’m aware) I could be wrong tho. This screen will be black, and I let mine PXE boot and it worked for me once. And then the next time it happened it didn’t book in PXE.. so that could be one option. Also it could pop up with a screen that gives you an option to either boot it in IPv4, IPv6 or windows boot. Keep trying every option and it should work..(at least it did for me) and I’ve started it 5-6 times after I started having this issue. Again, I am not a tech and I know very little about pc’s. This could be harmful to your pc, I have no idea. I’m just sharing what worked for me. Also, I’ve read in different forums that the stock fans absolutely suck on the r11. And people suggest getting new fans as well as adding one more, for better cooling and airflow (as they tend to overheat causing issues such as the one you have). Also I heard something about taking apart the GPU and adding thermal paste. I have not looked into that but I know that is also one option that can increase fps. AGAIN I am not a tech and I know very little about computers, please do your own research on the things I’ve said. Hope this helps at least someone.. Thanks

r/Alienware on Reddit: Aurora R11 not turning on after thermal paste, gives me 3 yellow blinking lights then shuts down
January 15, 2022 -

My cpu was spiking to 100 degrees Celsius when playing games which was odd, so I decided to try and repaste. Once I did that I tried plugging it back in, but now it turns on for a few seconds then gives me 3 yellow blinking lights on the power button and shuts off. I checked the diagnostic lights on the Alienware website and it says 3 blinking lights system board or chipset error.

Do I have to replace the CPU or motherboard? Also, My warranty finished. Has anyone else experienced this?
