Hello, I bought recently a Alienware M14x r2 for cheap, that sometimes when I press the power button it beeps 3 times(I think) but when I power it down and press the power button again, it boots up normally. I don’t know if it matters but the battery is toast, the laptop works only when it’s connected to power
So i recently came into contact with this laptop, my first one i actually owned and i really like it. Anyways, the problem i was having was when i would start it it would beep constantly for 30 seconds to a min then boot fully into windows. Now, when i boot it up if i hold down the Fn key it doesnt give me the constant beeps and boots right into windows. Has this ever happened to anyone and do you have a reason why this would be happening?
I ran the diagnostics and everything passed except the battery which is said it was near 50% left.
Any help would be appreciated
When I power on my M14x it beeps 8 times with a black display. I already tried disconnecting the display and reconnecting it. What can I do to fix this problem? I don't have warranty anymore so I'm stuck with fixing it myself.....
Update: I got it to work again after disconnecting the CMOS battery and booting it up, then putting it back in and rebooting. So it was mostly a glitch with the CMOS battery and it had to be reset.
Alright, so I have an M14x, ran out of warranty a few weeks ago. I did a lot of research and the 1 Beep every 2-3 seconds means motherboard failure. EDIT: For clarity, this beep occurs until I shut the computer down, it continues to beep every 2-3 seconds. I called Support and they told me it's out of warranty, and I'm SoL. I can sometimes get it to boot if I unplug and then replug the AC Adapter, but not always. Another solution I found was holding 1 & then power button for up to a minute. Both these solutions are working less and less. I am currently running the hardware diagnostics, hoping, that it will find something! (ePSA)
I really need this thing this week, I have college finals! Any workarounds or any info that you guys have would be greatly appreciated!
The 1 Beep Code could also refer to a corrupted BIOS, but I have no idea how to reflash it, I couldn't find info on that anywhere.
Quite disappointed in alienware's product...
So I had a bad monitor hinge from my wife dropping my laptop, It's been out of warranty for some time which is why I decided to fix it myself. It worked just fine but the hinge suddenly seized which caused the screen to split. At this point it still work but cosmetically looked like Poop. I bought new hinges and replaced them and then put it all back together but now when I power it on all I get is 8 beeps and nothing else.
Should I try cleaning all the contacts for the display and then try again or should I just take it somewhere to have someone fix it? If I could bypass the display and just hook a monitor up to it I would but it doesn't want to see my HDMI port at all...
8 beeps is the screen not being right I believe. It's probably not seated right or something or may be dead. Can you connect to an external display and will it boot then?
Edit: it not dying your HDMI port might mean gpu is dead? I would try taking it apart and making sure all connections are good before taking it elsewhere
My M18X R1 has been doing this every so often for a few years. They replaced the MOBO 3x because they couldn't think of anything else to do. I didn't find the problem, but I found a solution. Step by step:
1: Power down and unplug.
2: Take out battery.
3: Plug back in without battery in and try power up. If good put the battery back in and pretend this never happened. If stiil a problem...
4: Unplug and take battery back out and bottom cover off.
5: Find the CMOS battery.
6: Disconnect CMOS.
7: Hold the power button down for about a minute.
8: Reconnect CMOS. Plug back in and put battery back.
9: Power up. This has worked for me on several occasion with the 8 beeps.
