Was playing yesterday night while plugged in, get a message saying that the laptop is almost dead. The charger works fine, actually tried it on another laptop, and tried the other charger on the M17, same deal. It's not charging nor turning on. Filed a service request. Anyone know what may have caused this? Only got it 6 months ago. Repair person is set to come here, hopefully they can fix it and I don't have to send it in or elseI may request to get a new system instead. Anyone have this issue before?
So, I have a brand new laptop that for some reason won't turn on after I press the power button. It will turn on whenever I open the laptop itself, so it's not catastrophic or anything.
Check that the button isn't disabled in the BIOS or in Windows. I change my power button to hibernate instead of sleep on every computer I own. Either the software for the button is changed, or the power button itself is defective.
Does it light up when the laptop is running? In BIOS there's a setting to let the laptop power up when open the lid (disabled by default). Try to disable that see if the power button working again. Also try reset the BIOS to factory setting see if it fix the problem.
Hello all,
So last night my Alienware was on, running okay. It started working hard (fans blowing loud enough for me to hear) but this happens almost everyweek so I put the laptop to sleep. This morning I went over and pushed the power button, got no response. AC adapter seems to be fine, green lights on for the adapter, but when I push the power button I don’t hear a fan kick on, I don’t see a flicker of light or anything. Unfortunately I bought this laptop at Best Buy, and the warranty has already expired. I knew I had an issue with this laptop a while back because the laptop would freeze after being on too long, I would have to power it off and on again, and it would run okay after that.
Is it worth it to take it to one of those chain laptop repair places(ubreakifix) or call dell support? I tried opening the case to take a look at the battery, it looks fine to me, no scorch marks or anything strange.
Edit: I appreciate the troubleshooting attempts, everyone, but I’m mainly more concerned on whether or not dell/Alienwares tech support/repair is worth the price, or if you guys think a local repair shop would be able to diagnose/fix the issue. I use the laptop for both home and work, so I want to try and get it back online as fast as possible
My laptop is not turning on at all. This means when I have it plugged in with the Power Adapter and push the power button...nothing happens: no beeps, no lights, no fans, no sign of life whatsoever. This is also the case when I unplug the power adapter and just try to power on with internal battery only: nothing happens.
Is there something I should try before I create a Support Ticket and send it to Dell?
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide!!
Left it charging overnight to download a game and when I went to turn it on the keyboard and alien power button flashed for a second and that was it Now it won’t turn on at all and I can’t open it up cuz one of the screws seems to be messed up Also my charger seems to work but there’s no sign of the laptop charging Plz help I just want to play Minecraft with RTX
First thing to try is a power drain. It has been known to work sometimes although it's rare. I was helping someone out on facebook yesterday with a similar issue and it fixed her 17 R1.
Really try to get the screw out so you can disconnect the battery.
With the power adapter and battery removed, hold the power button down for 30-60 seconds. plug everything in and try again.
