Hey all! I have a quick and inexpensive fix. I cut out two large 3mm thermal pads to the size of the dimms, laid them atop, and squeezed the bottom shut. i had the same slot a issue. It appears that the retention clips weaken over time, and this will apply safe pressure against the dimms - and improve heat transfer away from them. :) Answer from moreComplete on dell.com

I was playing games and decided to update my laptop since windows was bugging me about a firmware upgrade.

Afterward, the screen no longer turned on, the keyboard and fans were running, and the power button was blinking red twice and blue three times. According to Dell, that’s the diagnostic code for failure to detect RAM or memory.

I’ve never touched the RAM or memory in the laptop. Ideas??

Remove the battery & RAM Sticks and its unplugged from the wall charger > Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds > Plug everything back in and ensure its all well seated > Boot as normal.

Hi CoffeeOxide welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum. The Crucial System Advisor database says RAM memory must be DDR4 3200MHz. Alienware Alienware x17 R1 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com. BIOS should say that both memory slots have memory cards installed. Before upgrade, were the two original memory cards and their slots working? If yes, slot A could now contaminated with dust/debris, visually inspect memory slot A using bright light, and use can of dry air to remove contamination.

And I bet their running at 1.20 volts...the G.Skill RAM is running at its SPD (serial presence detect) speed, which is the default speed (2133 MHz) and voltage for that RAM. Evidently, it is not communicating with the Dell motherboard regarding XMP frequency. G.Skill states on their website,'Rated XMP frequency & stability depends on MB & CPU capability'. That's not to say you absolutely can't get the speed up, it may be possible, but it's not going to be plug and play with that RAM. I'm sort of surprised it runs at all!

Update: I managed to get it to reboot by resetting the CMOS, but now it is stuck on 2133 MHz with the new RAM. In the BIOS settings it is listed as 2133 MHz as well. For reference, they are G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series.

So ,My Alienware 15 R3 was getting BSODs like a month ago and I fixed it by reseating my only 8GB RAM stick and cleaning it from dust ,But recently it started happening again and alot with different error codes mostly been Memory_Management and when i tried to restart ,it flashes a ( 2 Blue 3 Red ) Code which means that there is no RAM detected in the system when it was running fine 10 min ago before the crash . I ran the memory diagnostic tool and nothing came out faulty, I also ran sfc /scannow in CMD, and all my drivers are updated including windows 10

So do i clean the RAM stick again and inserted this time in a different slot ? I need help asap ,please.

Same boat.
Happened last year and my computer is a trash now. My computer was 2-3 years in use.
Dell is selling defective hardware at a mass level. You will be surprised to see how many people are complaining exactly same problem not only on this forum but on so many forums.

The computers are being sold no matter the sellers know about the defect already.

Almost everyone is complaining about the motherboard failure in 2-3 years.

Issue starts with random crashes, causing crash when screen made off, and then finally down. Even motherboard replacement is not available or is very costly.

usually as said no ram detected... usually that says board is still functional .. closing the clips wont harm anything that I ever heard off ... remove the ram and reseat them, they will go in and click with a bit of force make sure they go in proper way as they only go one way , you can also try just 1 stick then the other stick on its own to see of it boots... you can try booting with the cd drive disconnected and side panel off it wont cause any issue for testing purposes..

I finally got it to work. It was a simple mistake. It turns out that the RAM stick was facing the wrong way. I didnt understand because all the videos I watched about uprgrading the RAM on the x51 had the sticker side facing away from the fan. I'm terribly sorry for freaking out when it was a simple solution.

I have an Alienware M15R6 and one of the slots is not working. It has 2 slots and each of them has 8GB. When the faulty slot is fitted with the 8GB Ram the laptop doesn't boot up and the alienware logo lights up as 2 reds and 4 blues. When removed the laptop boots up normally although with only 8 GB Ram. Both of the Ram sticks are working as i tested both of them in each slot and concluded that when the Ram is in slot 2 the laptop is not booting up. What should i do? Do i have to change the motherboard or is it repairable?

Almost certainly needs a new motherboard - it could be your CPU's memory controller that's misbehaving, or it could be your motherboard slot itself, but either of those will require a new motherboard.

I just recently got an Aurora R10 and set it up yesterday. Today I started it up and it ran fine for about half an hour then it shut off. Now it will not turn back on and is showing 2 blinks of a yellow light, then a pause, then another 2 blinks. I looked it up online and it says that light code means there is no ram detected. I have opened it up and checked out the memory cards and they are installed correctly so I’m not sure what the issue is. Anyone have an idea?

Try a different stick of ram or slot, make sure to hear a solid click or it will not work

Did you add offbrand ram to it? I remember adding an extra stick that wasn’t from Dell and the mobo didn’t like it due to mismatching voltage.

Are you on BIOS 1.0.7? If yes, boot up with just one stick of OEM RAM. Restart several times to ensure stability. [Resolved] I purchased a RAM upgrade for my aurora r11. I installed it alongside the original stick of ram yesterday. The original in the 2nd port where I found it and the upgrades in the 1st and 3rd slots. And it worked perfectly.

This evening when I got home from work I got an amber light code thrown indicating ram failure. (2 blinks)

After spending the last 3 hours troubleshooting I have discovered that I can get the system to run fine using just the old ram. And it doesn’t throw any codes when I have just the new ones plugged in but it doesn’t send any signal through the hdmi port.

My fear is that my new ram isn’t compatible with my mobo but that doesn’t explain why it DID work yesterday.

The new ram is Mushkin Enhanced Redline Stiletto 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model MRF4U320EJJP32GX2

I’ve attempted to find compatibility lists myself but my searches have been wholly fruitless

Any help identifying the problem would be wildly appreciated. More so if that help doesn’t involve attempting to return these new memory sticks

Don't think it's a coincidence, I just got the same message. Never had a memory problem. Got the message rebooting after the latest win10 cumulative update. Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB4592438). I have alienware 17r4. I didn't do anything but click on 'continue' it finished booting normally and reports the same memory as always. No problems. I have not rebooted again since then. It's getting so i am afraid to update my computer.

Unplug the computer, remove the base cover and disconnect the battery from the system board. Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Remove and reinstall both memory modules. Reconnect the battery and replace the base cover. Power up and see if both modules are detected. If one is not detected, try swapping slots. If it's not detected in the other slot, replace the failed module with a new one. If both modules fail to work in one of the slots, it's the slot that's bad - which means a mainboard replacement is required. If the system is under warranty, contact Dell support before going through the procedure above.

September 20, 2019 - After checking each RAM module and each RAM slot, I found that the issue was not with the RAM modules but with the RAM slot itself. Both my RAM modules working fine by themselves in the top RAM slot. The bottom RAM slot I believe is malfunctioning. Which I think means, if I want it totally fixed, I would have to replace the entire motherboard, which would be very expensive, likely costing approximately a third or quarter of the current generation of Alienware Laptops.
