while computer is plugged in turn it off with the power button then once it's turned off it will continue to give the same light code, then unplug the charger, hold down the power button for like a minute, then plug the machine back in, hold the power button for another minute then hopefully it will fix itself. I just did this and now i can unplug my machine and also get back the performance that it was lacking in.  Hopefully your issue was the same as mine and that you don't need to replace any parts! For users returning to this thread, the flash code of 4 amber (or blue in this case), 1 white or a constantly flashing amber light would be indications of a Temporary Battery Failure. The 4,1 code in particular would be due to 2 possible reasons. Either the battery has become too hot and has shut off the charging function to try to cool down the battery, or the computer has experienced an Over Current Protection event while charging and has shut off charging temporarily to protect the computer. Both of  these scenarios are recoverable. However, the computer does not charge until the Temporary Battery Failure condition has been removed. This is working as designed to protect the computer. Use the following steps to recover the charging capability of the computer and stop the blinking LED code from being displayed: Reseat the AC adapter. This can be done by disconnecting the AC adapter for ten to fifteen seconds and reconnecting it to the computer. If the Over Current Protection circuitry has triggered this, it resets the protection and resumes charging If the battery has gone above its thermal threshold, move to a cooler ambient temperature environment and wait for the computer to cool. Once the battery temperature has decreased, the computer should resume charging. If still unresolved, remove the bottom cover and reseat the battery cable to the motherboard.  Run the diagnostic to see if there is an error code for the battery Shutdown the unit Hold down the Fn key and the power button together A quick test should start. Make note of any errors if any If still unresolved, test with a known good OEM battery if available  See this video for additional battery troubleshooting.  Contact Dell GHN (Get Help Now) chat technical support Monday through Friday. The 2 red and 7 blue blink pattern on the Alienware 15 R4 power button is a diagnostic code that indicates a Display Failure. What This Means This error typically points to one of the following: A loose or damaged LCD cable A faulty LCD panel A failure in the display circuit on the motherboard Troubleshooting Steps 1. Power Drain Reset Disconnect the AC adapter and battery. Hold the power button for 30–60 seconds. Reconnect power and try booting again. 2. Check LCD Cable Connection Remove the bottom panel and IO shield. Locate the LCD connector near the back of the system. Carefully reseat the cable, ensuring it’s clean and properly aligned. Inspect for dust, corrosion, or physical damage. Clean gently with isopropyl alcohol if needed. 3. Run LCD Built-In Self-Test (BIST) Hold the D key while pressing the power button. If the screen cycles through colors, the panel is functional. If it stays black, the issue may be with the panel, cable, or display circuit. 4. Test with External Monitor Connect to an external display via HDMI or DisplayPort. Use Fn + F8 to toggle displays. If the external monitor works, the issue is isolated to the internal display. Next Steps If reseating the cable and running BIST doesn’t resolve the issue, the problem may be: A faulty LCD panel A damaged LCD connector A motherboard display circuit failure Need Help? r/Alienware on Reddit: Alienware 17 R3, 2-red and 4-blue blinking led pattern issue. Solution? Serious issue?
October 15, 2019 -

Hello everyone, good morning.

I searched Reddit but there is no question for this pattern and I wanted some advice from community beforehand.

https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware-General-Read-Only/6-blinking-led-ALIENWARE-15-R3/td-p/5547947 Shows that it might be RAM failure (it says amber & white but we have red & blue?) but after trying to force shutdown and restart like 10 times, the computers starts successfully. What should I do? It is a serious concern?

r/Alienware on Reddit: PC won’t turn on (2 red & 7 blue flashes)
March 31, 2025 -

Hello, I have an Alienware 14x PC, and all of a sudden my PC seems to be unable to boot up, with the computer failing to even display anything on screen. No, my warranty has since expired.

The power button is flashing red twice and blue seven times, which from what I’ve looked up seems to mean several things. Either the lcd screen is broken, the RAM is having an issue, etc. I’ve even pried open my laptop open from beneath to scan for issues and I still have no solution.

Despite this I have found some new outcomes since the problem started. It seems that my issue is specifically with the boot up process, where my computer rarely displays the “Windows didn’t shut down correctly” screen. However, upon hitting “exit to windows 11” the whole problem starts all over. I can tell by listening to my computer’s fans that it seems to be trying to boot up over and over.

All my schoolwork is on it so I need a fix and fast. Any remedies?

Hi @faritzdanial · If it is a 2:2 blink error code that this means there's a System board problem - BIOS and ROM failure · This could be due to corrupted BIOS software. · Try a power refresh and check if that resolves the problem. · Here's the procedure: · Turn off the laptop (if it is on) and disconnect the charger from the laptop (if it is connected). · Open the laptop and disconnect the main battery cable from the motherboard · Disconnect the coin cell RTC battery from the motherboard · Here's the service manual for the laptop that will help. Go to p.29 and then p.25 to view the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC coin cell battery. You don't have to remove the main battery, just disconnect it. · When the RTC battery is disconnected, check its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC (or if it is >5 years old) replace it. Search online for cmos battery for DELL Alienware 13 R3 to find suppliers that suit you best. · Press and hold the laptop's Power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it. · Reconnect the RTC coin cell battery, reconnect the main battery, re-assemble the laptop, reconnect the charger and then check if the laptop turns on OK · If it does turn on OK then there may be a message that the date and time are incorrect. This is normal as a power refresh resets the BIOS back to its factory default state. Once the date and time have been corrected, the message won't appear the next time that the laptop is started. · Also any user definable BIOS settings that were changed by you, to suit whatever operating requirement you had, will have to be changed back again as well.

Answer: Go into safe mode and change the resolution/refresh rate to native. If it’s already set to native (recommended), lower it and make sure it’s set for a refresh rate of 60 hz. If this works, once you boot normally, update the video driver, restart, and go back into Display settings ...
