Thanks for your reply! Last night I decided to unplug the ac adapters (Area 51 has two of them) and let the battery die. I can’t say for sure what exactly happened but an hour or two later in desperation I tried holding the power button down for two minutes straight… I had done this before several times… still no effect… but then about one minute after I had stopped holding the power button down it shut down on its own. Not sure what did it… maybe finally ran out of battery? I plugged it back in and booted again and it took me to a screen with the Alienware logo at the top saying 'battery has been disable' (yes it actually did say 'disable' instead of 'disabled') and then something about the battery being overheated. From this portal I was able to run a system scan and it found no problems. I restarted again this time tapping F2 and confirmed that battery and ac adapter were functioning properly… then rebooted and it came up with a screen saying it was finishing windows update… after that it booted normally and seems fully functional. Not sure exactly what fixed it but my best guess is battery finally died… I hope this helps someone who might finds themselves in the same situation.  JD Answer from Johnny Dixon on dell.com

r/Alienware on Reddit: Windows 11 Update Issues
December 27, 2024 -

Is anyone else having issues with windows 11 not updating. I have not had any issues with windows 11 on my M16 R1 until the last 2 weeks.

System update says: "your version of windows has reached the end of service". I cant get any newer version of windows on here.

Computer will work fine for 5-15 mins some times and then blue screen and restart. Sometimes it works fine if its left plugged in. I appreciate any ideas in advance!!!!

Specs:

CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700HX

GPU: 4070

Ram: 16gigs

If Dell Client Device Manager (DCDM) 1.0 is present on the system and Dell/Alienware Update (AU) 5.5 is manually installed, the DellClientManagement Service may become corrupted, causing it to stop and be disabled.

Hi @Johnny Dixon , I got you so its no problem. I had the same issue when my dads AREA 51M was doing a BIOS Update and he closed the lid during it and that must've corrupted something because it wasn't turning off. I spent 2 hours diagnosing and fixing it to come out with the solution: unscrew all the screws attaching the laptops bottom panel where the fan is and use a suction cup to pull it out gently. Then even though the laptop IS on still unplug the battery connector from the motherboard. DONT REMOVE THE BATTERY, just unplug it. Then the laptop should shut off and then you need to hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then hold CTRL+ ESC while your plugging the battery back in and the laptop should boot!

r/Alienware on Reddit: Windows update and now stuck on update screen
October 15, 2021 -

I had a notification that a Windows Update was needed and so I scheduled it to install late last night(around 1am) and when I woke up this morning my monitor(which is a Vizio tv) is stuck on the "Please wait while we install a system update" screen. It has been this way since I woke up at 7am and possibly even longer considering when the update took place.

Windows said it was a Firmware update and usually they never do this or take that long. Most times updates are done by the time I wake up.

I did sort of restart my PC and it booted back up to an update screen that said it was 30% complete, did a restarting screen and now it's back to the please wait screen.

I'm genuinely afraid to touch it at this point...

UPDATE: Just jumping in to say that my updates are not automatic, I do have to approve them. I just saw this one and didn't think anything of it. Also, I dunno if it matters but I can definitely hear the fan on my PC running(it usually does this if it's loading something) so I dunno if that is an indicator of it doing anything or not.

UPDATE.2: I turned it off and back on again and got it to boot up. It went to the update progress screen went from 34% up to 100% and then windows started up as if nothing had happened. Everything seems to be going okay so far, but if anything changes I will update again.

Why will my windows 11 laptop not load past the alienware logo and the windows log? - Microsoft Q&A
I see, thank you for the update. A practical next step is to create a bootable Windows 11 installation USB on another PC using Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool, then insert that USB into your Alienware and use the F12 boot menu (or your system’s equivalent) to load from the USB.

I have Dell SupportAssist v4.0.3.61632 installed. Per my attached screenshot, the 'Another scan is in progress. Please try again after some time. We were unable to start the scan as another scan is already in progress.' I have deleted, reloaded, and re-run the app several times. I continue to receive the same error message. What is being done to resolve this error/problem?

r/Alienware on Reddit: Alienware Update and SupportAssist no longer working.
March 16, 2023 -

Alienware M15 R4 - Over the last few days, I’ve had issues with Alienware Update and Support Assist.

I am now getting this error with Alienware Update:

https://i.imgur.com/q1Q8Hs0.jpg

Basically, it will not perform a scan. The only changes I’ve done were the Windows 11 March update a few days back and the upgrade to the 1.16.2 BIOS update. I have tried reverting it back to the 1.15 BIOS, but it still does the same thing.

Also, SupportAssist no longer works. When I try to run any of the options (driver update, hardware check, clean files, etc), it kicks back an error basically saying it can’t continue because another process is running. This has been going on longer than the Alienware Update issue, which only seemed to start today.

I have also fully uninstalled both programs using Revo Uninstaller Pro AND even deleted all leftover files. I have since re-installed Alienware Update and it still does it. I have not yet re-installed Support Assist. Figured if the Alienware Update wasn’t fixed, then neither would Support Assist. 🤷‍♂️

Alienware Update runs on my R13 Desktop just fine. So I know it’s not a server issue or anything…both systems are on V 4.8.0.

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

r/Alienware on Reddit: Stuck on system update
August 4, 2022 -

My laptop forced an update as I was shutting it down for the day and now it’s stuck on a screen saying “Please wait while we install a system update”. The power button and any key functions are disabled. Is it best to let it die then restart? Or is there something more I can do to combat this. It’s the x17 model btw

It’s been stuck here for about an hour now
