only 8th Gen. and above. I have experimented with i7 6700. You are able to install it off a USB doing a clean wipe. But... it would not let me Update to the 22H2 Update. So you can upgrade but know that you may be disappointed in the "blocking" of update 22h2 Other updates are available until 22h2. Hope that helps

There are ways around this. Go to YouTube and search for no bloat local account no TPM Win 11 installations. Not hard at all to get around this.

I have my first Alienware laptop coming this weekend and it has Windows 11 Home installed but I need Windows 11 Pro. Should I just purchase the upgrade or is it best to buy the full version of Pro and install from scratch?

Are there any issues with upgrading to Pro on a M15 R7 if that is the route I should take?

If full version reinstall is the preferred method, any tips on the steps I should take to install with the proper drivers? It’s been over 8+ years since I rebuilt a laptop.

There’s zero benefit from reinstalling just to upgrade to Pro.

You can purchase the Pro upgrade from the Windows App Store. The digital license will be tied to the new laptop.

The minimum system requirements for Windows 11 is at least 8th Gen processors (except for very few 7th Gen processors). This is to meet Microsoft principles about security and reliability.

There has been no new announcement from Microsoft yet if they plan to add more processors to the list. You may need to consider using Windows 10 as it continues to be a great version of Windows. Microsoft is committed to supporting Windows 10 through October 14, 2025.

It is not recommended to install Windows 11 on a device that does not meet the minimum requirements due to the risk of running into compatibility issues and won't be entitled to receive updates. However, you can check the tutorial guide below to bypass the Windows 11 CPU requirements and be able to upgrade your Windows 10 device to Windows 11.

No. Dell doesn't provide a Dell system image. If you made a backup image before wiping it clean, you can use that. Otherwise, you have to download the Dell software from the support pages for your system.

My son bought a new custom build gaming PC, and he gave me his old Alienware box which still has some great hardware. I want to delete all his crap and start over... but I don't want to brick the machine with native default windows drivers... how bad is the recovery clean install option in Win 11? I did installs like this back in the Win 3.11 days where I had all the vendor drivers on floppys and could work through things... but I just don't have that kind of time anymore and was hoping I could just click the option and it would clean all his games and files off and leave me something fresh. Also, I've been a Mac user for the last 10 years due to work... so I have lost a lot of what I used to know about PCs. Thanks. (I did search the threads for similar and didn't see anything recent... so hope I am not smacked down to hard for not doing more research.)

You likely won't have to worry about drivers. Windows Update will handle 99% of your drivers needs, anything missed can be obtained on Dell.com

If you use the built-in reset feature I'm pretty sure it keeps the existing drivers and just wipes everything else, though I might be wrong about that. In case I am wrong about that, you can export all of the third party drivers currently installed by opening PowerShell as admin and running this: $Dir = New-Item -Path "$HOME\DriverBackup" -ItemType Directory -Force; Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination $Dir.FullName (it's 2 commands, one for creating the backup folder in your user folder and one for exporting the drivers). You can then manually install drivers in Device manager using that folder as a source. Alternatively, you can add them directly to the install image before installing it.
