Hi, I have an X17 R2. From my experience, my laptop does run hot at times (I have seen 104C before on a previous machine). However, that one might have had a cooling problem. The fans can be loud, and I have had issues with previous machines where the fans would hardly turn off. The X15 will be different than the X17, but for me, I bought one of Alienware's backpacks to best fit my machine (because it is a big laptop). The speakers are OK, they are not the best. For me, I barely use the speakers, so they are fine. But, if you plan to use them all the time, this will be a deal. I have had some semi-issues with sleep mode, but this is also Windows' fault for a poorly managed sleep function (in my opinion). Unfortunately, I cannot give you input on the coding aspect, because I am not a coder, LOL. Through all the issues, would I want to look at another laptop company eventually, sure. However, there is the special essence to an Alienware machine, like a quirky sports car, that you just love. Keep in mind, a lot of laptops have these same issues. P.S, if it is childish to want an Alienware, then this whole sub-Reddit is full of children. LOL. :) Answer from Wattsupwithcomputers on reddit.com

r/Alienware on Reddit: Alienware x15 R2 reviews anyone?
September 17, 2022 -

So I had always wanted to buy an Alienware laptop. You could call me childish.

I was checking out on YouTube for reviews and idk I was getting very mixed type of reviews . So here are my main concerns if anyone is using Alienware kindly clear my confusion.

Speakers: Some are saying the speakers are completely trash while some are saying that speakers are nice. Now I can't decide this about what to do

Cooling: This might be the biggest of all the issues out there. So I saw a lot of charts about CPU temperatures and all so any real time user out there can tell that is it that bad that you can't even game on this thing. If that is the case I might have to switch over to something else.

Portability: Now some Youtubers are saying that the laptop doesn't even fit in their backpacks. I can't
decide this. Right now I have a dell Inspiron 5577 which easily fits in my backpack.

Fan Noise: Fan noise is said to be really loud on this thing but the laptop I currently have also gets super loud while gaming so I don't think I'll mind that much of noise but if it's too much kindly tell.

Also I saw one reviewer saying that it doesn't go to sleep automatically when lid is closed. Has that been fixed or is that problematic while sleeping??

And any coders out there who have used linux or ubuntu on this thing. I read in a review that linux and ubuntu were having problems on this thing. So if it's that please tell me.

Thanks in advance for reading all this

Hey OP, I have an x15 R2 (12700h, 32GB Ram, 3080TI) and will try to fill in any gaps in the reviews you've seen. I work as a game artist and game/animation professor and use the laptop regularly for that. I have a desktop that's my main workstation, but the Alienware is my 'live demo' and 'work away from home' main. I purchased in in the spring this year to replace my old but exceedingly reliable Helios 300 (1060 couldn't keep up anymore). Speakers: I find them to be a nice upgrade from the Helios. They have a little base, solid mids, and passable highs. They aren't anything special considering the form factor but I'm far happier to watch Youtube or listen to music in my University office on them than with the Helios. Cooling: It's a non issue. Yes, they run hot but are designed to. The cooling solution in it's totality is designed to allow the CPU to run to it's limit, back off a bit, and settle in at a sort of equilibrium. Sometimes it'll boost back up (on both CPU and GPU) because that's how parts are designed these days. It's a problem if you're doing nothing and you have temps at 85 deg C, but if you're gaming and you're bouncing between 80 and 100 C, that's normal. These are thin, high performance machines and will run hot, it's impossible for them not to. Portability: My initial backpack was designed for 15in laptops and it fit, fit a bit better than the Helios. My current bag fits a 16in and it has no issues. You'll just have to measure things and compare. Fan Noise: It'll get loud. It's normal. Will say the sound is a bit better than the Helios whine I had (loud and higher pitch) Issues: My first unit had bad system RAM. Took a while to fix, partly because of my impatience. Current unit is solid, although I have an issue where coming out of hibernation or sleep Windows basically doesn't load in. I'm not the only person with this issue but it might be rare and I'm unsure if it's across all Alienware laptops...they boot fast enough that I work around it. Sleep, it will sleep if the lid is closed (and if not you can set it to do that) but modern sleep (Win 11 issue I think) keeps the machine ON even though it's in a low power state. Because of that, the X15 gets hot as hell because it needs to pull air in though the top. So...Hibernate is your only real option unless you keep the lid up. Overall, I'm happy with the machine but it does feel like a Porche or Ferrari. It goes real fast, looks fantastic, and is very sensitive to some specific little things that at times can feel like it's random. Side notes: Don't downgrade to Windows 10-Windows 11 is needed for proper behavior with the Intel CPUs. The 1440p panel is awesome. 3070ti is probably the best option for the money unless you need GPU Ram.
