Dealing with historical texts, we talk about spelling variants (of a word or a personal name). For those modern innovations in the writing system, I know the term non-standard spelling or, for the whole system, a non-standard variant (e.g., of English).

What is an Alternate Spelling Generator?
How does the Alternate Spelling Generator work?
What are the benefits of using alternate spellings?
LIKABLE/LIKEABLE annoyed the hell out of me yesterday. Most alternate spellings aren't allowed, for example British spellings (most of the time). But as always with Spelling Bee, there are exceptions, and exceptions to the exceptions. So I put together a list of alternate spellings I've encountered in the year and a half I've been playing this game, and am sharing it in case others are interested.
They're arranged in order by vowels included in the word. Where the spelling change involves different vowels, I'm listing it under the simpler of the two choices. Or if that's not applicable, under the one that comes first alphabetically.
