r/Affiliatemarketing on Reddit: Affiliate Marketing on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca: How does it work?
January 8, 2025 -

I just got accepted to the Amazon Affiliate program and I'm excited to get started!

I am based in Canada so I signed up with Amazon.ca, but I also know that most of my traffic comes from the US so I also signed up for Amazon.com. It shows that the IDs are linked in my account settings and it says that it will consolidate my earnings.

But how does this work when it comes to posting links? Do I have to post separate links for Canada and the US, or if a Canadian clicks a US link and gets redirected will I still get the commission?

Also how do payments work? If it's all getting consolidated will it just pay to my Canadian bank account, or do I have to do something special/different for any US commissions?

Sorry for all of the questions; I am a total newbie when it comes to affiliate marketing! :)

I got my affiliate links recently. I live in Ontario.

I would be earning a commission if anyone buys a product using the links provided.

I heard there's no need to do it if you make less than 30k in commissions but I'm sorta confused.

It's also saying something about having to register a business number. I don't think I'm an actual business, just an associate.

Any tips or advice would be really appreciated.

I love the Amazon Affiliate program. It’s super easy to get started and even though the commission rate is lower, most people who buy, they buy many things. Just one of my sites ( I have many ) makes ~$1k/month passively and has for years. I don’t even touch the site. The new creator program is great and it offers bonuses for hitting certain shipped revenue targets. I max these out every month so it’s a nice extra. Just make sure to read their TOS and the updates as you don’t want to get banned. They do enforce their rules so stay compliant.

I've not signed up yet but have done a load of research into this, how this relates to someone who is actually using it may be different, but these are my points: - You don't necessarily need to get a sale from a product you link, any sale done within a 24hr period results in a commission to you for bring them to the site, something that blew my mind when I seen this. After 24hrs you don't get any commission after that, as the cookie will be binned. - Amazon affiliate program is the largest affiliate marketing program in the world. - Using a website with SEO is hard, but doable, if done right. - Using a mobile app that has so many daily users is a great way to get an audience for your affiliate IMHO, and a route I'm going to use. - Look at the terms of use as there are some major pitfalls that can get you banned very quickly, like using affiliate links in emails, docs, or DMs/private messages, also buying from your own links is a big no no, Amazon will ban you if they find out. Amazon also have strict use of shortening links, always use an Amazon’s link shortening tool in a format that's approved. - Paid ads to get your site to showing on FB, TikTok etc. will bring visitors, but this can be difficult without an income and/or risk haemorrhaging money before you get going with a risk of not much return (can be a gamble), Youtube can give your links a massive boost, even with a low footprint. - Commission tends to be fairly low for most items, <=4%, but if you get lots of linking then this won't matter that much. - You can focus on high commission categories like home improvement, fitness, subscriptions like Prime, Audible, Kindle, which offer better commission rates, although I think linking to the site and getting a commission from any other sale not on your store is a great incentive, although this might only work for using an app linking route. - A monthly recurring income is not guaranteed like it would be for something like a subscription so income can vary quite a bit, but his depends on your visitor click/tap through rate. Initial sales will be really low and can take 6 months to start working once your SEO starts ranking you higher. - If you don't get any sales Amazon will cancel your store after 180 days, although you can sign up again. I'm looking to use Amazon affiliate program as my main income on an app that I'm about to launch (proudly not built with AI), I have built an app before so have a bit of experience in this field, as my last app had 16k daily users, around 100k installs, which was pretty decent for a niche app. Wishing you the best and hope the above is useful.

Amazon One Link can auto direct your clocks to the correct store. Also look into Genius Link. It can help make sure that people who click your links get to the correct country’s store. You only need to sign up once and you can get commissions for any country.

To use Amazon affiliates from different countries, you can register for the Amazon Associates program in each country where the program is available. For example, you can register for Amazon Associates in the US, Canada, and other countries separately. When you register for the program in a specific country, you will get a unique affiliate ID for that country. You can then use that affiliate ID to create affiliate links for products available on that country's Amazon website. If you have an Amazon Associates registration in the US and a Canadian clicks on the link and goes to amazon.ca, you will not automatically get a commission for that sale. However, you can use a tool called OneLink to link your US and Canadian Amazon Associates accounts, which will allow you to earn commissions from clicks and purchases made on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. With OneLink, when a user clicks on your Amazon.com affiliate link and then goes to Amazon.ca, they will be redirected to the Canadian Amazon website, and you will receive a commission for any eligible purchases made on Amazon.ca. Similarly, if a Canadian clicks on your Amazon.ca affiliate link and then goes to Amazon.com, they will be redirected to the US Amazon website, and you will receive a commission for any eligible purchases made on Amazon.com. In summary, while you need to register for Amazon Associates separately in each country, you can use OneLink to link your accounts and earn commissions from clicks and purchases made on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.

r/Affiliatemarketing on Reddit: Amazon Affiliate Link Success?
November 17, 2023 -

I have applied and been accepted to the Amazon Affiliate program a few times over the last 5+ years. Each time I fail to get sales to keep the account open. I believe originally it was 90 days and now it is 180 days. I have read a lot online and every article I seem to find points to either "building a social media presence" to drive traffic or to create a review/blog type website to drive traffic to the links. I do have an Instagram account for a certain niche that has 18.1k followers but I get very little engagement when links are posted. I have also been part of the Merch by Amazon program for ~5.5 years and make around 150 organic sales a month.

My question is how did you become successful with Amazon Affiliate links? Should I build a site using something like WordPress and then build review articles or guides to drive traffic?

The past few weeks I have watched countless videos and read many articles. No real concrete guidance so I'm asking here. I'm not looking for a step by step guide or your "secret sauce" on how to do it. Just wondering, for those that have generated sizeable income, what avenue did you take? Was it difficult?

r/Affiliatemarketing on Reddit: Starting as an Amazon Associate
January 18, 2025 -

Hello all, I'm interested in starting a website, YT channel, IG, and TikTok account in hopes of being able to accepted into the Amazon Associates Program. I would like to review products and shows/movies I buy on Amazon, and have already purchased on Amazon.

I have built a few successful websites/YT channels in the past in the Finance and Tech spaces. I love watching review videos, and figure I'd like to give this a shot. I don't want to be yet another AI-generated review channel. This will be a real person providing honest reviews. I'm not here to cut corners or make a quick buck.

I have a domain name picked out that I think it super catchy, and would transition well to social media accounts.

One major question I have is, how much of a 'following' do I need to show in order to be accepted? Reading through their docs, I am unable to find a number. Ideally I could start reviewing products, and provide an affiliate link from day one of publishing new content.

One issue I have is my other half used to get free things from sellers in exchange for an 'honest' review - Not an automatic 5 star review, but a legitimate review. Because of that, Amazon has banned my account from submitting new reviews. I have emailed Amazon about reconsidering this, but haven't heard back in over two weeks, I guess the answer is No. Should I go ahead and make a new account, and start purchasing everything via that account? Or can this wait until I actually have a following? Do I even need to purchase items from the account that will be the affiliate?

I was wondering if anyone could provide insight, or good resources they have used in the past, on the process to being accepted into the Amazon Associates Program. I feel as though finding good YT channels on this topic is hard as many are just trying to get clicks, provide misleading or false information, or are just trying to sell you their eBook.

Looking forward to hearing form you all, and thank you in advance!

I’m new to this marketing thing and I recently signed up as an Amazon affiliate on the Canadian Amazon website, there is also a U.S Tax paper I have to complete.

My question is do I need to complete it if I’m not going to linking from Amazon.Com? It’s in the related to income section: if all services will be performed in the U.S or outside if the U.S or partially in and out of US- which one would I select…

Then there is also the IRS Form I have to complete and consent to.

r/Affiliatemarketing on Reddit: Basic question about signing up as an Amazon Affilitate
December 25, 2023 -

Hi, I have a pretty basic question. I'm building a new website and plan on featuring several Amazon Affiliate links to products that I mention.

I have not signed up to join the Amazon Affiliates program yet, but my understanding is that you have to supply a website URL in the application so Amazon can review your site and proposed affiliate links before approving your application. (assuming that's correct, please let me know if it's not).

My question is: I'm still building my site and it is not live yet. I do have it on a password-protected staging site, however. Is it more common for the process to be that I launch the site with Amazon Affiliate links already populated throughout the site, and hope Amazon approves the site? Or is it more common to provide the reviewer a password to access the staging site, and they'd review and approve the application before the site goes live?

Apologies if I'm missing something basic about the way the program works.

I don’t monetise my channel other than AdSense, don’t do sponsors (although I do get offers relatively often) etc. but in my comments on TikTok and YT people often ask me for product recommendations (usually books to read further on the subject) and I will usually reply with an Amazon link unless it’s something you need to go to a specific website for. I’m not a member of the affiliate program, I just think Amazon is probably the most accessible for most people. I’ve googled it and seen a lot of conflicting information on whether it’s worth it or not.

So are you an Amazon affiliate? Do you actually make money from it? Is it worth signing up for?

r/Affiliatemarketing on Reddit: Why am I not getting any buys for my Amazon affiliate links?

Ello' folks. So, I started last week with the affiliates program, and I have 7 clicks on my links. I advertise through Pinterest, and use Canvas to promote the products. My niche is in technological products, which revolve around computer accessories such as mouse and keyboard. I've also branched out to home appliances, which still falls under technology, but is getting more views.

Like I try to post 2 pins a day, 5-7 on Sat and Sun. I also use DeepAI to write out some of my descriptions, and use hashtags to promote the products as well. What can I do to improve my overall presence in the market and get more commissions? I don't have a website yet, I do plan to soon. Although, that'd be mainly a re-hash of the products I'm promoting from Amazon, in a free, Wix.com cheap style format, but it's honest work.

I've been doing AA for a month now, many clicks but no sales yet. Then I just realized AA only pays you if a customer buys your product within 24 hours of posting the link. I was kinda looking for something I could set and forget for weeks, maybe months, and still earn $$$ on my links.

Is AA worth pursuing even though there's only a 24 hour window? Also, I'm very new to affiliate marketing so I don't know if a 24-hour window is the standard.

r/Affiliatemarketing on Reddit: Made $24,000/mo with Amazon Affiliate in April 2020 - Ask Me Anything!
September 9, 2020 -

Hey Guys!

UPDATE: I'm now documenting my income strategies on YouTube, feel free to follow me there: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9tPRWQhtCouQwi74nEeDRQ

This is my long, 3 -year Amazon Affiliate journey.

I started creating Amazon Affiliate sites around May 2017. I owned a small (60+ posts) "kayak reviews" site with lengthy buyer's guides. (3000+ words each article). The site made just $200-400/month and NEVER really took off.

Despite hiring an English teacher to write my articles, she had no knowledge of the niche and believe it or not, her writing was not even that great. I believe if I wrote my articles myself, I would have done MUCH better. Largely, the project was a "failure" to me and I ended up selling the site for just $6,000.

Experimenting with more small niche sites

I then experimented with a few other small niche sites that sold for around the same kinda money ($6k or less). Finally, I decided I'm going to launch a new Amazon affiliate. It will be a massive general site and cover 5 major categories and a few smaller ones; home improvement, tech, sports, outdoors, tools, etc.)

Building a huge affiliate site: the journey

Long story short, I spent 2.5 years to curate 585 buyer's guides with the help of a bunch of writers. While a couple of friends and people I spoke to in the industry were making upwards of $30,000-$50,000/month with this much content... I was making a measly $2,000-4,000 for the first 2 years.

For the longest time, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't making the big break. Then, in Dec 2019 I decided I was going to hire a bunch of freelance writers to do patches/fix all my articles. I hired someone to do an SEO analysis and look at my competitors for each article.

What sections do they have that I don't? What's their word count against mine? How many backlinks do they have to each post?

The link building phase

Since I couldn't secure backlinks to my hundreds of posts (would cost upwards of 100 grand), I decided to promote around 100 articles. Reached out to over 1,000 blogs in hopes of getting my links inserted in existing articles or placing guest posts. I ended up securing 350+ backlinks in just 3 months. It was pure INSANITY.

I was sending and answering emails 10+ hours per day until I secured links for 100+ posts. Average of at least 3 backlinks per post (depending on the need).

The result?

Within a few weeks, I went from making around $4,000 to:

$7,000 in January 2020

$7,500 in February 2020

$13,671 in March 2020

$21,029.49 in April 2020 (WOO! :D) Screenshot Here

The screenshot I'm attaching for April 2020 will include earnings from the big site plus a few grand from two other small sites I still own. Eventually, though, Google came out with an algorithm update, nearly the same time Amazon decided to cut its commission rates again. Two big hits. I went from making $21K with the big affiliate site to just 7K a month.

The hype/big money was short-lived. People in the industry that I know were making that kinda money for years....and here I am losing it as fast as I got it. Kinda bittersweet. I ended up selling the site for a little under $200,000 in just 30 days after listing it with my broker. After the broker's 15% commission I ended up with 175K.

Some people would argue it's a lot of money, but I invested my heart and soul into this project for 2.5 years and countless hours (over 1400 hours if I had to guess). If you broke it down to hourly earnings, it would be around $125/hour. Nothing I couldn't charge as an SEO company, working with a few clients.

Don't get me wrong though. I'm grateful for the opportunity. It was a huge learning experience. I also made about $100K during the site's existence, which is pretty much the cost of the site during the time I owned it (content & backlinks).

Why I believe my earnings increased sharply

These results really came from the major overhaul I did to the site with content improvements and the massive backlink investment I made. I worked really hard, every day, for 60 days. I put in nearly 300+ hours during those two months.

Here's what I learned (mistakes you can avoid if you're building an affiliate site):

  • Build a specialty/one category/niche site (don't go for too many categories)

  • Write really high-quality, long-form content (3000+ words for buyer's guides).

  • Take your time to publish great content. Don't add too many posts at once (quality WILL diminish - this was my biggest downfall).

  • If you already have a site, remove posts that have no keywords after 6 months or REWRITE the post completely

  • Hire VA's to edit your posts (add images, links, charts, etc). It will save you hours on top of hours and allow you to manage the "business" better

  • Keyword research is everything (take your time with it)

  • Go for topics people don't already cover. Strongly consider using "allintitle" and go for keywords under 200 results or use the KGR method

I was previously motivated by similar posts on Reddit and elsewhere

Over the last 3 years, I was always reading other income reports or looking to learn as much as I possibly can to improve my earnings and keyword rankings. Even though I've been doing SEO for 10+ years for large brands, there's always something you can learn in this game.

If you don't want to consider just an affiliate site, you have options

You have three types of ways to monetize/types of sites:

  1. Affiliate (Amazon or a different affiliate program - example site)

  2. Lead generation (ex. getting leads for local contractors - example site)

  3. Ads/Build an info site (how-to articles - example site)

**That's all I can think about for now. I'll update this over the next few weeks as I go along. I wanted to post this for ya'll for motivation.

I’m starting to understand the importance of generating traffic, which is critical to a website’s success. Investing in ads may not always produce the desired results, as evidenced by my experience spending $80 on Pinterest ads without seeing a return. Similarly, my attempts to collect leads through Facebook were unsuccessful. Google’s recent system updates seem to have had a negative impact on affiliate websites.
How has your journey been with Amazon associates?
