Amazon HQ2

July 30, 2025 - Amazon HQ2 is Amazon's corporate headquarters in National Landing in Pentagon City, Virginia (part of Arlington County) in the Washington, D.C. area, and an expansion of the company's headquarters in Seattle, Washington. Phase I, which has capacity for 14,000 employees, opened in June 2023.

Arlington is home to the location for Amazon's new second headquarters (HQ2).

June 15, 2023 - Amazon will host a grand opening ceremony for the new HQ2 facility at Metropolitan Park Thursday, June 15.

The project is part of Amazon HQ2 in Arlington County and includes two office buildings (Metropolitan Park 6 and Metropolitan Park 7/8) containing a total of approximately 2.1 million SF and approximately 70,000 SF of ground floor retail and retail equivalent uses.

HQ2’s first phase of development, the Metropolitan Park campus, officially opened in June 2023. It includes two 22-story LEED-Platinum office buildings encompassing 2.1 million square feet, 50,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and a 2.75-acre public park.

March 21, 2022 - The two 22-story office buildings will include more than 50,000 square feet of retail space for small local businesses and a 700-person meeting center that will be available to community groups. The building is on schedule to open in 2023.

Amazon chose Arlington County to establish a major new headquarters.

The office park is set to open this summer. Located on the northeast end of National Landing, Metropolitan Park is the center of the most development in HQ2. The address is 1400 South Eads St. and 501 15th St. in Arlington.

July 1, 2025 - The Arlington County Board has approved a three-year extension for Amazon’s HQ2 development plans in Virginia, giving the company until June 30, 2028, to move forward.
