March 12, 2021Has anyone tried this Amazon Basics Executive Chair?
You’re not gonna get a lot of support on this one. For long hours, consistently, you are going to want a good ergonomic chair, rather than a chair like this. Now a 2-3 hour sprint works great with the executive chairs, but long term health benefits have all arrows pointing ergonomic. According to what I’ve seen on this sub (never had that chair myself), you’re going to see leather peeling and a deflating cushion in a couple of years. Amazon basics are not going to win you points here, but at the end of the day, it’s your call. One additional note, HM and steelcase aren’t the only 2 companies with good chairs. Allseating, SitOnIt, Humanscale, Hawthorne, etc have some good models. I actually like the HON Ignition 2.0 over the HM Aeron and Celle, for example, even though that’s not what we are taught here. But everyone is different. Best rec is to go try some in person. More on reddit.com

I'm looking for a comfortable, inexpensive office chair for my new apartment because it is in another state and I will try to move back as soon as possible. Amazon Basics has three options:
Padded, Ergonomic, Adjustable, Swivel Office Desk Chair with Armrest, Bonded Leather [$87]
High-Back Bonded Leather Executive Office Computer Desk Chair [$144]
Amazon Basics High-Back Executive, Swivel, Adjustable Office Desk Chair with Casters, Bonded Leather [$157]
I'm thinking of getting #3 because it's high-back and looks plusher than #2, though I can't tell what else is distinctly different between the two. Maybe #2 was released more recently since it has way fewer reviews.
Anyone use one of these Amazon Basics chairs before or know of good alternatives? I only need the chair to last two years as I hopefully will be changing jobs and moving back to my homestate before then.
A lot of the reviews at the top complain about the thin leather layer wearing out, but obviously a real leather chair would cost way more than I'm looking to spend. I'm not looking to keep this chair for a decade, so as long as it doesn't wear down immediately and doesn't fall apart before I can throw it away, I'll be satisfied. On a side note, I used to buy cheap $40 faux leather shoes from Big 5 Sporting Goods. I was happy with them but I noticed my 3rd pair leather finish rubbed off within a few weeks. I then decided to pay the full $150 for real leather shoes and boy are they so much better. No skin to rub off and water-tight. Sorry, personal aside.

They look pretty good, just try to find some reviews about them from a reputable YouTuber or website that will let you know how they will feel after a year or so in. Also, please do not buy a "gaming" chair. They are all made the same factory with custom stickers slaped on along with a heavy price lift that you will have to heft once they are on Amazon. LTT has a great video on this if you are interested. The gamer chairs are cheaply made and won't feel good after less than a month. Edit: also if you can go for a mesh chair, as cheaper foam chairs tend to loose some of the koosh in the middle where your ass sits on the foam all day.

I have an Amazon Basics chair; specifically, an older version of this chair . It was pretty decent for... I dunno, 9-12 months? I'm only 5'8" and 125lbs, and a bit over a year later, I'm essentially sitting on metal. I do sit in the chair for 10+ hours per day, so some wear is expected, but it's become intolerable. Additionally, the arm pads are also down to the metal now, and the right armrest sags significantly due to the weight I've applied to it - I'd say it sits a full inch below the left one at this point. Honestly, the reason I'm on this sub right now is to research a replacement. To summarize, it was acceptably comfortable for a little under a year, but don't expect to get any real mileage out of it.
