Java 11 for AGP 7
I am trying to update to the latest AGP and it requires Java 11. Is there any difference between the vendors? Android Studio is suggesting a few options there (AdoptOpenJDK, Amazon Corretto, Azul Zulu, etc. More on reddit.com
Are there any substantial benefits to different JDK's and their JVM implementations?
You're talking about different things here: OpenJDK distributions with Hotspot: there shouldn't be any performance difference at all. Hotspot, OpenJ9, GraalVM CE, and also proprietary JVMs: you can find benchmarks. Why would you pick one OpenJDK distribution rather than another, especially among the ones that are TCK compliant? Well, it depends: Do you get commercial support as part as the platform? For instance if you're using RHEL, Amazon Linux on AWS, ... If not, can the distribution provided by your system's package manager be trusted or not? It's true for RedHat based OS, not so true for Debian/Ubuntu. Can you update to the latest JDK every six month? If not, what does LTS (or MTS with Zulu) imply for the particular OpenJDK vendor? More on reddit.com

Oracle Java 8 end of Support January 2019 and Amazon Corretto
This isn't true, according to Oracle web site ( https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/eol-135779.html ) "Oracle will continue to provide free public updates and auto updates of Java SE 8, until at least the end of December 2020 for Personal Users, and January 2019 for Commercial Users. Personal Users continue to get free Java SE 8 updates from Oracle at java.com (or via auto update), and Commercial Users continue to get free updates to Java SE 8 from OTN for free under the BCL license." It's true, that end on java 8 in near, but for us, players, "Personal Users", the end date is December 2020, not January 2019. I just hope, that after this date Minecraft and mods willl be able to run on java 1.9+ (edit: fixed one typo) More on reddit.com
