I can’t help with question 2 regarding when they charge but we have done removal orders of high quantities and here has been our various experiences:
Items that are stored in the same warehouse are often sent together. This has resulted in a pallet of loose items all thrown into the same big pallet-sized bin. This damaged quite a few of the items’ packaging.
Other times, it can be sent responsibly like 4 in a box where they fit nicely.
It’s not uncommon to get them shipping an item in its retail packaging. This usually means they slap a shipping label on it and -you guessed it - the packaging is usually damaged.
Overall I’d say when doing removal orders like this, we end up with about 15% with damaged packaging. This will obviously depend on the quality of your packaging. Also I’d say 2-4% won’t show up. You can (in theory) get reimbursed for those but it’s a frustrating process and not as easy as getting reimbursed for a customer return that was incorrect.
I usually already have a liquidation option available for items that have damaged packaging since we don’t have packaging to replace the damaged ones. We are dealers, not the brand so it’s not really worth the hassle of getting new boxes shipped to us and repacking items.
If the items aren’t very valuable, the $6.36 removal fee can be tough. If you’re looking to be done with them, Amazon does have a liquidation option but you tend to get 5% of the retail value. We rarely use that option. We do, however, remove items directly to liquidation partners sometimes, which saves on shipping.
Best of luck to you!
