Can I get scammed if I put in an Amazon gift card code given to me, into my Amazon account?

As I recall, whenever I have sent an Amazon gift card, the only notifications I have ever gotten were 1) when the email was opened, and 2) when the card was activated. I have never gotten any notifications in connection to any purchases that were made. I don't see how using that gift card code could compromise your account. More on reddit.com

Does anybody know anything about the little card that come in some Amazon packages offering a gift card for a 5 star review? I received one in a pair of headphones I ordered. I was going to do it but accidentally burned the card when it got stuck to the bottom of a pot while I was cooking. The email address to send the proof of review to burned off. This is the first time I have received one of these so would like to know if I just missed out on an $80 gift card or if these are a total scam.
