Our experience as drivers for Intelcom today, after the first day when we used to work at Amazon, was extremely disappointing. We’ve arrived at 6 AM, and we left around 1 PM with 250 packages. We were then given a three-hour to organize and loading the van, when with Amazon its 20 minutes. The van was very old, dirty, and unsafe to drive. I decided to quit after four hours. Some drivers even don’t took the van out, as an Amazon X driver, I can’t work in this condition. We need something better. We need the union to go to the Intelcom and teach them how to do the business after Amazon. I don’t believe anyone can be professional any more. Answer from Moist-Active3608 on reddit.com

January 22, 2025 - A company spokesperson said Amazon will outsource deliveries to smaller contractors. The spokesperson insisted that the decision was tied to cost savings — not the recent unionization of about 200 employees at a Laval, Que., warehouse. "Following a recent review of our Quebec operations," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement, "we found that returning to a third-party delivery model supported by local small businesses, similar to the one we had until 2020, will enable us to offer the same excellent service and deliver even greater savings to our customers in the long term."

My hubby needed some pyjama pants and I had a couple things in my Amazon cart already (I know...) so we found some pants that worked for him. Decided to see if the store had their own website, and lo and behold, they were a Canadian company based in Laval! Decided to order directly through the website and prices were significantly cheaper than Amazon! Had to pay shipping, but it still ended up being less than ordering through Amazon. Always check folx! Ended up deciding to buy a bit more via the website because of the price difference. Still saved money, our cash went directly to the Canadian company, AND we avoided an Amazon purchase. A win all around! Happy to share the name of the company in the comments.

January 22, 2025 - The Ontario Amazon workers just saw what happens when you try and unionize... ... The situations are not the same; shutting down the Quebec warehouses means that product will take a day or two longer to arrive from Ontario; shutting down the Ontario warehouses would mean pretty much giving up the GTA market - I have a hard time believing they'd let that happen, esp. since they already work with unions in other countries as pointed out above.

Hey,

So, how have things been going since the end of January? Around here, we haven't had any trouble forgetting Amazon exists. Zero orders since they shut down in Quebec. Plus, I work from home, and it gets me out more often to go to the store, which is nice.

How's it going for you? Have you given in, sometimes, often? Do you live in an area where you have no choice but to order online?

Good way to evade the union.

Hey all you Quebec municipalities who gave amazon major property tax breaks, waived development fees, and gave other incentives like paying for road and utility construction and maintenance, aren’t you feeling great about that decision?

Quebec provincial govt who also subsidizes amazon, are you happy? Have you learned anything?

r/union on Reddit: Amazon Lays off 4,500 Workers in Quebec to Bust Their Union
February 8, 2025 -

Faced with the prospect of being forced to sign a labor contract as early as this summer, Amazon has gone to extreme lengths to evade its obligations under Quebec’s labor code. On January 22, it announced it is closing all seven of its warehouses in Quebec and outsourcing their operations.

Is Amazon closing shop? Not really. It will continue selling its wares online in Quebec; It’s just that warehousing and delivery will now be handled by third-party contractors.

But the 4,700 layoffs are very real: 1,900 Amazon employees across the seven warehouses are losing their jobs, including the 230 workers at DXT4, which became the first Amazon facility in Canada to unionize in May 2024. An additional 2,800 workers employed by Amazon’s delivery subcontractors are also being laid off.

r/CanadaPostCorp on Reddit: Canada Post Employees in Quebec Now Forced to Deliver Amazon Packages Without Warning or Extra Pay
September 25, 2024 -

I work for Canada Post in Quebec, and out of nowhere, we’re now being forced to deliver Amazon packages—without any warning from our supervisors.

I went from delivering around 50 parcels a day, starting at 10:15 AM and, on a busy day, finishing as late as 8 PM. Now, with Amazon in the mix, I’m handling 150+ parcels a day, with no raise, no adjustments, and no heads-up.

It’s completely outrageous. We’re already dealing with brutal weather, long hours, and a system that barely supports us, and now we’re expected to take on a massive increase in workload for free? Meanwhile, Amazon keeps making record profits while we, the workers, get burned out.

If they’re going to dump Amazon deliveries on us, the least they could do is pay us properly and respect otur time. Anyone else dealing with this? How is this even allowed?

Realistically they'd rather be shut out of Quebec entirely than pay every delivery driver an extra couple bucks an hour. I'm curious if this leads to kamikaze unionization.
