Amazon is planning to cut as many as 30,000 corporate jobs beginning Tuesday, as the company works to pare expenses and compensate for overhiring during the peak demand of the pandemic, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The figure represents a small percentage of Amazon’s 1.55 million total employees, but nearly 10% of the company’s roughly 350,000 corporate employees. This would represent the largest job cut at Amazon since around 27,000 jobs were eliminated starting in late 2022.
Managers of impacted teams were asked to undergo training on Monday for how to communicate with staff following notifications that will start going out via email tomorrow morning

What are your thoughts on this?
Today, Amazon announced 30k layoffs, most posts on LinkedIn I’ve seen were from HR/Recruiting. Curious to know if they laid off any DevOps/SRE as that would imply a lot of Amazon engineers would be coming into the market. Anyone hear anything?

Buddy of mine works at Twitch and is in a pretty senior, non engineering role. I was surprised to see it hit there. Would have thought it would be leaned heavily towards engineering types but after telling him for at least 2 years that he should be looking into other roles it finally hit him. Remote Worker, he worked in a financial role.
Starting to hear the rumblings.
In a sweeping layoff, Amazon is getting rid of 30k+ people today, and in the future they will remove more and more to replace them with AI.
New World is feeling these layoffs, some people are missing from the discord, and artists are posting on Twitter talking about being laid off. We don't know the full extent of the layoffs yet, as they're going out this morning.
I'm worried for the future of the game.
Edit Update: The Amazon Employees subreddit is saying the entire Irvine AGS studio is gone. That's the one that runs New World.
Edit Update 2: Amazon Games jobs listings do not have the Irvine site listed. Probably confirmation New World is cooked.
Edit Update 3: The AGS LinkedIn page no longer exists. I think we might be cooked cooked.
Hi,
As mentioned in the news, Amazon is expecting to cut 30K jobs worldwide: https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/amazon-targets-many-30000-corporate-job-cuts-sources-say-2025-10-27/
In case of mass layoffs like this, how does that work in Japan? Since the company isn’t going through financial issues, would Amazon needs to provide severance package for all employees? What if the employee doesn’t accept?
I tried to search about this but couldn’t find anything concrete.
Thanks
Apparently its as many as 30k jobs, yet Amzn netted over $15 billion last quarter. So amazon shuts down thousands of small businesses, creates a monopoly, hordes billions, its not enough so slim down the workforce…
