Amazon Music prime subscription is free for prime members. It’s the same concept as Pandora, you can shuffle playlist and stations, but you can’t play songs on demand as far as I know. You must have inadvertently subscribed to the Amazon Music unlimited plan, which is paid for everyone. Prime members have a discount though. Answer from cyberchief on reddit.com

I've been a Prime member for 10+ years, but never used the music service. Last week I downloaded the app on my phoe and started listening. I have used Pandora, but I thought I'd try this and I thought it was included in Prime. The next day I got an email stating: "Your subscription costs $0.00 for the first 3 months and then $9.99 per month after,"

I thought it was included? Is there a "lite" version I am thinking of, or one with commercials or something?

Its become so restrictive, cant rewind, can't pick songs, can't download. Its pretty useless and not spending 10 bucks for unlimited as my high speed data is limited.

Any good alternatives besides the radio?

Amazon recently removed a whole bunch of songs from Amazon music prime and moved them to Amazon music unlimited for an additional $8.99/month now this is why I'm leaving Amazon music if I'm paying $15 for prime i should get all the songs offered at no additional price.. I'm still going to have to pay for another music subscription service at this point but I'm not getting Amazon music unlimited... they really want people to force people to pay additional money to listen to songs that were there in the Amazon music prime selection 2 months ago and now aren't anymore.. I'm sorry Amazon but this is unacceptable.. I'll spend my additional money on Apple music or Tidal instead

Amazon Music Prime claims to be a music library included with the Prime subscription. However, most music I listen to (which is dubstep) is either hidden behind the Amazon Music Unlimited paywall or absent entirely (unlike Spotify).

What's the fucking point of having Amazon Music Prime in the first place if it's just a cut version of the music library? Is it to lure me into Unlimited? Are they telling me "basically, since you're already here with our app, might as well subscribe to our actual music service"?

Please tell me what the heck is going on. I've had Amazon Music for literally just today, and I already hate it.

r/AmazonMusic on Reddit: research: why do you use amazon music and why not spotify? how would you describe amazon music’s image?
October 10, 2023 -

So, I’m doing some research for a project in college. I watched a lot of videos, read articles, looked what people had to say on social media and I found out a few things:

• amazon music had a big redesign in 2019, however people still complain about the interface
• people that use amazon prime will also use amazon music (however some still use another extra streaming platform)
• amazon music is adding more and more podcasts and also has an exclusive event called "amazon music live" where you can watch live performances and interviews with artists

And I’m wondering…
• would you say amazon music is "cool" or "trendy" or rather something for an older audience?
• did you notice a difference when they did the redesign? how do you like the current design?
• what’s something that’s missing within the app?

• why do you use amazon music instead of any other platform? or do you also use another platform?
• why do many people still prefer spotify when amazon music has become pretty much the same? both have around 100 million songs and almost 5 million podcasts, same pricing, desktop and mobile version, bluetooth connectivity, lyrics etc.

thanks in advance!

r/AmazonMusic on Reddit: Soo Confused with Amazon Music...What am I paying for?
December 30, 2023 -

I have Prime, and I also pay extra for Amazon Music. Totally fine on Alexa in the house and it is kinda sucking on my phone (I just do podcast and it keeps bluetoothing).
Anyways, on PC trying to log on, they are asking me to upgrade?? And pulling a Spodify saying I have one more skip before an ad?
This is mostly on one wifi, so that is not the issue. Maybe it is a device limit? Because I am not going to upgrade..like to what?

So you're paying for Prime subscription... It just gives you the right to use tier 1 perks.. Separate subscription for Amazon Music gives you more perks, no commercials, premium music, no skips on song album, full album etc... Then even when you have Amazon Music Unlimited, it's another tier to unlock more perks... Now what I've noticed for a long time is, even though I have those 2 subscriptions it still asks me if I want to upgrade to Amazon Music unlimited... It's looks like at first glance you're paying for unlimited but it's just an ad that makes you think you need to subscribe. So you are paying for the same services I'm paying for.. 1..Prime for all of Amazon serv. and 2. The subscription to Amazon Music (for the premium perks). Don't get fooled by the "Amazon Music Unlimited" ad.

There is a difference between Amazon Music Prime and Music Unlimited subscription. Prime is limited to music with a mandatory shuffle. That means that if you go to play a free Prime album you will not hear the music in the order that is on the album, and Amazon may insert random junk that it thinks you 'might' like into the playlist. Prime music also limits you to a specific number of 'skips' before it forces you to listen to all the rest of the music you may or may not want to listen to. I want to say you are allowed five skips before you stop getting the freedom to move on to another song before its end. I'm not really sure of the number as I avoid as much as possible playing any free music because of the limitations Amazon imposes upon the listener. My feeling is that Amazon made the Amazon Music Prime experience so much less enjoyable to 'encourage' listeners to sign up for the paid subscriptions service Music Unlimited. If you are paying currently for Music Unlimited and are getting behaviors from the app like is imposed currently on the Prime Music service, call the customer service number. Don't bother with the online Chat. It is hit or miss whether you get resolution with the chat experience. By the way, we need to stop calling Prime Music 'free'. We pay a subscription fee for Prime. Prime Music is part of that service. Therefore, Prime Music is not free. We pay for it.

I’m sure this has been asked before, but maybe somebody has a fresh opinion today. I’ve subscribed to Amazon Music for a lot of years now. I can’t even remember why exactly, I guess it was because we got an Alexa back in 2019 and it must have made sense to subscribe?

It seems like it’s “cooler” to have Spotify. And what about Apple Music? And are the prices of those two comparable to Amazon Music? And can you use those two through an Alexa?

I’m sorry if these are dumb questions.

I use Amazon Music a lot on my phone. And my daughter uses it a lot on her tablet. And my family in general will put music on the Alexa here and there, especially when they’re outside.

I’ve been happy enough with Amazon Music but I wonder if I’m missing out on something better, at least price wise.

Also, as an Amazon prime member, do I actually have to pay for Amazon Music? I have the unlimited plan, I’m assuming I do have to pay for this to get access to everything I want?

Editing to add: thanks for all the responses, I didn’t expect at all to get so many and they’re all pretty nice too, thank you!!!

I’m in the US by the way. And I had never even heard of “UI” until reading everything here 🙈

I used Spotify for years and switched to Amazon Music (AM) when Amazon offered a promotion for a year. The AM app is horrible. It'll frequently start playing a song and then skip the next song in my list. I downloaded my most played lists to try to get around this, but it still happened, although less frequently. The user interface itself is just not intuitive and I frequently get lost trying to find something. I also couldn't get it to stop auto playing podcasts. You can't queue up lists to play, unless you do a play list. The AM app also frequently stopped responding causing me to restart it. That's a big pain the arse when you are in a car. I was so frustrated with AM but I stuck it out because I had this year long AM sub. Just a few weeks ago I gave up and re-sub'ed to Spotify before my AM year sub was done. AM does have better sound quality and is slightly cheaper, but thats it for things in their favor. If you are listening to music through a headset, pods, etc... I don't think you can tell the difference between AM and Spotify, or any other streamer. Maybe better ears than mine can tell the difference. Spotify costs more, but the app is better, the music suggestions are better, it doesn't glitch like AM, and is easier to use. I will say the AM web app is just fine and it's the app I have issues with.

I have no idea if its the best one, but its deffinitely better than Spotify or Youtube music, because it supports UHQ on many songs. If you have some good expensive headphones its the cheapest way to utilise them fully. When it comes to Apple music - no idea, I tried only mentioned 3 and from those Amazon is the best for me. Edit: If you scroll down here ( https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/best-music-streaming-service/ ) there is comparison table. Only Qobuz has higher quality but its expensive and Ive never heard about it, no idea if its even supported in my country.

r/AmazonMusic on Reddit: Unlisted differences between Amazon Music Prime and Amazon Music Unlimited
February 27, 2025 -

Amazon has the most complete list of differences between these two tiers that I've seen, but I've noticed less important differences between the desktop and mobile apps I'm confused by.

I had a trial of Unlimited and it just downgraded to regular Amazon Music Prime.

  1. The playlists under "All-access" in the desktop app and iOS app are not the same.

  2. The "My Likes" playlist created from hearting songs in the mobile app is no longer accessible in the desktop app. Clicking it prompts to join Unlimited, whereas I was able to play it before.

  3. I can still add songs to the "My Likes" playlist in the desktop app, and while I can't play that playlist from the desktop, I can play it from the mobile.

All other playlists appear to function equally across both apps. Can anyone confirm this is everyone's experience and maybe the logic behind it?

r/AmazonMusic on Reddit: Am I the Customer who Likes Amazon Music?
October 2, 2023 -

I have been a Amazon Music subscriber since the mp3 days. Sometimes Prime Music, sometimes Music Unlimited. Reading this Reddit and other Forums I feel I am one of the few who actually like Amazon Music. Here are my thoughts:

Most of the complaining comes from Free or Prime Music peoples. There ain't NO free ride here. Don't like the shuffle mode then pay up!!!

I have tried ALL of the Major Music services, Tidal, Apple,Spotify, Amazon Unlimited, Rhapsody (now Napster) Youtube. Apple is my favorite and the most time subscribed right after Spotify. Tidal sucks, got tired of their Hip/Hop/Rap/Crap music bias.

Right now I am subscribed to Amazon Music Unlimited? Why? Amazon has more of the music I like (Blues, Jazz, Texas Honky Tonk, 70s R&B) compared to Apple. I have compared catalogs head to head and Amazon wins - easily. Amazon supports casting to Alexa speakers from mobile apps, Apple does not, no surprise here.

BUT here is where Amazon really wins - their Playlists. Yes, Amazon EXCELLS at bringing me playlists of music I love. Not just a few playlists but lots and lots and lots (100s) of really good playlists. Many think Spotify is the leader at Playlists but they are not IMO. Also, Amazon Radio Stations are second to nobody. IOW Amazon is the winner at bringing ME the music I seek and love. I constantly find new Artists and Music from Amazon. Unlike some services, Amazon understands and KNOWS my Musical taste and strives to please me!

Of course the biggest defect of Amazon Music is their APPs. They are second rate compared to any Music Service. I do not experience many of the APP problems described here on this Reddit. I use Apple Devices and a Firestick for my TV/Dolby atmos setup. The issue is NOT that the App does not play music properly, rather Amazon Music APPS lack many needed features that the competition has.

Will I stay with Amazon Music? I doubt it. The other Music services ALWAYS send me an offer I can not refuse. Spotify just gave me 3 months for the price of 1 Month but I refused - I dislike the Spotify UI, and the lack of Atmos/HD audio.

r/AmazonMusic on Reddit: why is amazon music so bad?
December 4, 2024 -

I really don’t understand why Amazon won’t make any useful changes to the app - surely it would make it more competitive with Spotify and Apple. I have used Amazon for years and I am so sick of it. There is no social aspect, no shared playlists. Here’s a list of 10 things I think should be implemented:

  1. A better UI. It is so bad. I feel like I’m in 2010 because it is so outdated.

  2. Playlist pictures. Why do we have to have some random album covers?

  3. Actual similar music. Whenever I try to play similar music it always plays something from an entirely different genre.

  4. Make it more social. Have more interaction with friends and family.

  5. Be able to have a light mode

  6. Have smaller artists on it… there’s hardly anyone on it.

  7. Better music quality (edit: i think this was just an unconscious bias when listening to other streaming services because i don’t know much about music quality)

  8. Developers actually listen to users

  9. A better suggested songs section

  10. A bit more customisation for the user

But honestly Amazon music just feels so LONELY. If a massive company like apple can create a smooth app and even Spotify, why can’t Amazon? Probably can’t be bothered
