What's the benefit of Prime?
Prime is only a benefit for people that order a lot from Amazon (like me). The audio books and videos are nice, but unless you buy a shit ton from Amazon, just sign up for Prime Video and save $120/yr. I wish there was an option to cancel Prime Video and save a few bucks. Actually another benefit is unlimited photo storage. I use it as a backup to my photo storage at home. It catalogs every photo, so for example finding only photos with my daughter and my dog is a snap. It would take me days to sort through my photo storage at home. All you have to do is install the prime photo app on your PC and point it to the folder where your photos are... Amazon takes it from there. More on reddit.com

r/amazonprime on Reddit: What benefits of Prime are you using?
July 3, 2024 -

Like all Americans I am pinching pennies. I've been a Prime member for about 15 years. IIRC it used to be about half of what I'm paying right now. I always paid a yearly sub fee, but for some reason now, can't remember; I am on a month to month ($16 w/ tax).

Now I have not used Amazon Video in a long time, mostly because everything I click on requires a payment to rent or buy, ad what is included is not very good. I also have Netflix which I was going to cancel, but was auto-downgraded to their Basic w/ads tier which is $6-7 per month which is easier to swallow. Since I have Spotify I do not use Amazon Music.

I have to say I like the convenience. Also, I hear many complaining how long shipping is now- I live in a rural area and still almost always get my items in the advertised Prime shipping time.

I guess I'm trying to justify the expense I pay every month or to talk myself out of it. For those who have cancelled Prime but still use Amazon, what is the experience like? Are the prices the same? Is a $100 item still free shipping without Prime, and if not is the shipping time longer?

I could in theory cancel Netflix and Spotify and keep Prime. I would like to hear from other people.

Personally, I've been trying to take full advantage of my Prime sub. These are my top favorite benefits: Amazon Day Credits (mentioned by u/twojs1b ): Opting for slower delivery and getting orders to arrive all in the same day earns you digital credits. You can use these credits on Prime video movies, Prime video subs, Kindle ebooks, and Audible audiobooks. For me, I earn enough credits to practically pay for my subscription and I use it to pay for my Crunchyroll and HIDIVE Prime Video channel subs. Prime Video: I've found a decent number of movies and shows that I have enjoyed. I'm not a big TV guy myself and I admit not all of the content is to my liking. Though, I still get in a few movies or tv shows a month which I find worth watching. Prime Gaming/Amazon Luna( gaming.amazon.com / luna.amazon.com ): You can redeem free games on Prime Gaming and sometimes they have some really good games available. You have a free rotating selection of games you can play over the Amazon Luna cloud streaming service and the ability to play select games you own from your Ubisoft and GOG library. I've definitely been enjoying Luna a lot more lately and, in my opinion, works really well! Amazon Fresh/Whole Foods: You can get a good amount of prime exclusive deals when shopping at Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market. Also, free delivery on Amazon Fresh orders above $100 (unsure if this is Prime exclusive or not). One Medical: You can get a discount on your One Medical subscription. Recently switched my primary care provider to One Medical and I've found it to be a lot better than other doctor's offices. The ease and availability of appointments and included services to video call or chat with a doctor on demand. This is the stuff that I find value in Prime for and I find the subscription to be way worth it. I also share my benefits with my family so other people in my household use the services.
