Had Amazon Prime FREE for 15+ years - Glitch is now fixed
Sounds like you may have been grandfathered in to the Prime Invitee Program. It was an old program that allowed a paid prime member to share the shipping benefit with you. It didn’t provide Prime Video or some of the other prime benefits just shipping. I also had it for about 15 years, but that program ended on October 1. There were a number of posts about people losing the benefit. More on reddit.com

r/amazonprime on Reddit: Had Amazon Prime FREE for 15+ years - Glitch is now fixed
November 8, 2025 -

I wanted to make this post because i can find minimal discussion on it online, even though I know it must have affected others. So basically, I've had Amazon Prime for FREE basically every since it came out, at least 15 years or more. I didn't even know anything was strange until about 2 years ago. I wondered why so many people sign up for Prime, since I always got free shipping super fast and never paid for Prime. I kept telling everyone they're wasting their money haha and to just use the free version because it was still awesome.

Finally about 2 years ago, I did some research and realized I was "glitched" into Amazon Prime. Most likely it was very close to when it first came out, and my free trial just continued forever after I cancelled. A friend of mine's boyfriend works for Amazon as an engineer, and when I told him about it he said he was familiar with the glitch. I begged him not to rat me out haha and my free Prime continued.

Also interesting to note I never had access to Amazon Prime Video, most likely because i was glitched into the Prime before Prime Video existed. When I would click into the Prime Video area, it would prompt me to sign up for Amazon Prime.

Now finally the party is over. It must have been within the last 2 months, but now when I try to order anything, I am charged for shipping and my account is officially a 'free' account.

Wow it was fun while it lasted! I literally must have got thousands and thousands of dollars in free shipping/membership charges. I think I'll probably subscribe now since I feel like I owe them some money haha. Anyone heard of this, or had it happen to them?
