I’ve noticed that Prime is giving away a lot of games through their launcher, so I’m wondering if it’s worth downloading it.

It doesnt have any social features or acheivements or cloud save. Basically its a download manager. It's a really simple app. It works fine but I only use it to download games then I add the executables to GOG Galaxy and play from there (so my playtime is tracked). Most games I've tried from the Amazon Games App are actually DRM-free so you don't really need the app open to play them.

Quick guide to install Amazon games on the steam deck

Go to desktop mode 2)From your browser download the Amazon games launcher from the official webpage https://www.amazongames.com/en-us/support/prime-gaming/articles/download-and-install-the-amazon-games-app
Go to the Discover app and search for ProtonUp-Qt and install it.
In ProtonUp-Qt select add version, in compatibility tool select GE-Proton and select the latest (currently I'm using GE-Proton7-53) and press install.
when GE Proton has finished installing, open steam, on the bottom left press add game, and add non-steam game, select browse, and select the Amazon launcher you previously downloaded and finally press add selected programs 6)go to you steam library and select Amazon games setup, right click on it and press properties, in the compatibility tab select the version of GE-Proton you previously downloaded. If it is not showing, exit steam and open it again.

To check where the launcher got installed, when it finishes installing, open dolphin (the file manager), on the sandwich menu at the top right enable show hidden files, then go to home/deck/.local/share/Steam/compatdata And search for the file with the latest date, that should be the folder with Amazon games on it Open the Forder you suspect it has the lancher and go to pxf/driver_c/users/steam user/AppData/Local/Amazon Games/App/Amazon Games.exe
Go again to steam and add another non steam game, this time locate and select the Amazon Games.exe we found in the last step. Same as before when you add it to your library , go to properties and select the version of GE proton you installed.

This didn’t work for me, every time I quit the launcher disappeared. Lutris didn’t work either, when I attempted to download a game it hung for a while then said it timed out or something along those lines, tried several times.

I've had prime for years but never knew this was a thing. Can you explain it to me? I just claimed Everdream valley. I guess I have to play it through the Amazon gaming app instead of my steam account. Do I own the game as long as I have prime or is it a limited time use?

Use it while it's free. Every other thing Amazon offered as a "sweetener" to Prime has become for-pay. Dropped my droopy prime last year, and I'm ordering 95% less crap.

It's yours once you claim it! And they rotate their games every month or so, so be sure to check back in. You can link games to your Steam account if you want to be able to launch them through that app, but it won't be the same as if you bought the game through them. Like you won't have achievements and all that. It'd probably be easier to just play it through whatever app you claim it for.
