Laptops are provided. They'll give you physical security keys to set it all up. But be prepared to be in constant contact with IT, unless they got their shit together in the last year. I had no time for a "sabbatical," and the main thing I remember is that "It's always day 1 at Amazon." Meaning, policies change suddenly and with no notice and it was always a chaotic situation that was never helpful. The people in the FCs hated the HR people, because shit was slow and guidelines kept changing; the HR people were always frustrated that folks in the FCs didn't provide the documentation they needed. Etc. It's a toxic environment. The only way someone has a generally positive experience at Amazon is if they got lucky and didn't get strapped with actually having to deal with a problem. I have friends at Amazon and the banner you saw on the website is accurate. Amazon as an organization is too big to make a policy that everyone must be remote, or everyone must be onsite etc. initially they came out stating the entire company would be hybrid but after a lot of internal pushback they basically said fuck it every team can decide for themselves. Unless you know the exact team you’ll be working on, you won’t know what your schedule will look like. To add, if the team you’d end up on is fully remote, you might limit a lot of your internal opportunities/promotions/transfers if fully remote is a requirement for you. I work from home for Amazon customer support. You need to have an dedicated work station and specific internet speeds. Depending on what country you are, you may need a phone line, though most use soft phone now. They provide the PC. It is no longer a small hard drive or laptop, these are being phased out and everyone is receiving a large chromebook monitor with a small drive built in the back so that may be hard to lug around. They insure the equipment at your home address. If something happens when you travel to Amazon's property, you will be fired. If you tell them you are taking the equipment out of the home, you will be fired. If your internet keeps dipping or you cant log in because of it, there will be investigations. It isn't a job where you can hop in and out when you have a free hour. It's like showing up to work in an actual call centre. You clock in at your start time, work, take your scheduled break etc. They expect you at home at your desk with your headset on for the day. I couldn't see travel fitting in with that. A lot of people on my team work their arses of from Sept to May and then take a summer sabbatical for 3 months to do travelling if that's an option for you. More on reddit.com
