AMD Radeon 7000 cards in 2025 ~ Worthwhile on a sale?
From what I gathered the Radeon 7000~ series got serious flak for being inferior to the Geforce 40X0's Where are you hearing that? AMD's offerings are really good up to 7900 xtx. It is 50/50 buy if you care about RT or do rendering however, even then I'd say it's still a good buy it's not something you do often. Here's what I always recommend, not taking sale prices in mind. Brackets are Nvidia equivalent in terms of price and relative % diff) 200 - rx 6650 ( 3050, 160$, -21%) 300 - rx 6750 xt (4060, 300$, -16%) 400+ - rx 7800 xt (4060ti, 390$,-28%) 500+ - rx 7900 gre (4070 super, 600$, -2%) 600+ - rx 7900 xt (4070 ti super, 750$, -3%) 800+ - rx 7900 xtx (4080 super, 1000$, -1%) I only consider buying Nvidia cards right around 4070 super because of the RT and DLSS then again you have to decide if it's worth it paying extra 50$ (imo still ok) then after 4070 super it jumps up to around 150$ extra. Why did it take 3 years for AMD to launch the 7000 series GPUs?
I'd assume because AMD only has like 8% marketshare in the gpu world, and just doesn't have as many people working on it like nvidia does More on reddit.com

Drawbacks of Going with the RX 7000 GPUs?
Hey, I actually sold my RTX 4090 and ended up switching to a RX 7900XTX. I did it as I just couldn't justify the price difference plus I never found myself caring much for ray tracing though the dlss support was nice. I went in with reservations as I have not owned an AMD GPU since the R9 290X. That thing was awful and I had way too many driver issues. Fast forward to now, I've had the RX 7900XTX for two weeks and even though the 4090 for sure gave more performance, I feel this card does just as well as long as you don't care about ray tracing. I find myself loving the whole amd driver suite. Much more than Nvidias more simplistic control centre. Drivers have not been an issue and using fsr has been the same as using dlss. I just can't justify those 4099 prices. Take it from me you won't be disappointed. I might even consider staying AMD come next gen cards. More on reddit.com

RX 7000 series GPUs AI Accelerators purpose?
These AI accelerator units are processors optimized for 16-bit floating-point vector operations and dot4-based wave matrix multiply-and-accumulate operations. On one hand, inferring (generating novel content) using modern neural networks like GPT and Stable Diffusion consists primarily of multiplying very large matrices (millions of terms per matrix), so the ability to perform these operations quickly and in parallel should improve inference performance. On the other hand, existing inference implementations seem to be bottlenecked on memory performance, and specifically the performance of the GPU's external memory bus, so until this bottleneck is alleviated, these inference accelerators might not bring much benefit. It might be possible to make a very simple model (a neural network's set of matrices and embeddings) which fits in a GPU's cache, but right now such small models are not very useful. The smallest useful models are still gigabytes large, even with aggressive quantization. To give you some idea of how games might utilize AI models, the game developers could eschew with some aspects of a game's visual art development, and instead generate text like "a green alien with six legs and a laser rifle riding a galloping horse", to be fed to a Stable Diffusion model running on the end-user's own GPU, generating video content which fits the text. This would empower the game devs to develop a much richer, more varied game world, limited only by their ability to come up with creative ways to describe it textually. Without the need to render artwork during game development, the game could essentially make up new world features as the user is playing it and generate the artwork on the fly. An embedded GPT model could be used to give NPCs more varied and complex dialog. You could play the same game hundreds of times and never have exactly the same conversation with the same NPC twice. For more insight into the state of the art for locally-running models, I strongly recommend the subreddit r/LocalLLaMa . More on reddit.com

AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series Release Date, Pricing & Spec News - Tech Advisor
January 6, 2023 - While we’re yet to test the GPU, AMD claims that it’s up to 1.7x faster than the RX 6950 XT when gaming at 4K. Other interesting features include support for the updated DisplayPort 2.1, a particularly important bit of kit that supports higher refresh rates in 4K and 8K resolutions, ideal for the graphical power on offer. It’s also something not employed by Nvidia’s RTX 40 Series, making it a win for AMD.

r/buildapc on Reddit: AMD Radeon 7000 cards in 2025 ~ Worthwhile on a sale?
October 9, 2024 -

Heya folks,

I have a quote here to get a few new parts installed in an ailing workstation PC. Right now the build I am looking at is centered around A Ryzen 9 7950X and 4070TiS. PC is mostly used for Premiere, Photoshop, Blender, UE4 and some medium gaming.

From what I gathered the Radeon 7000~ series got serious flak for being inferior to the Geforce 40X0's. With Black Friday and Cyber Sales coming up though, I am keeping an eye out for possible sales. Would swapping to a Radeon card be worth it if there is a good deal? Or is the entire 7000 series truly so bad it is irredeemable even in 2025 on a good deal?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

r/buildapc on Reddit: Why did it take 3 years for AMD to launch the 7000 series GPUs?
April 14, 2024 -

ve been kind of out of the loop for some time. I'm looking to upgrade my GPU, and AMD seems to be the best option price wise, but the 7000 series cards offer the same performance as their predecessors. I'm thinking that next gen will be much better performance wise, but I'm not sure how long it will take for them to arrive.

Between 5000 and 6000 there was 1 year, between 6000 and 7000 3 years, and there's rumors now that the 8000 series gpus could launch by the end of this year. I think I will wait till then.

Is the reason for it the chip shortage?

r/radeon on Reddit: Drawbacks of Going with the RX 7000 GPUs?
November 10, 2023 -

Hello there! I am currently looking at leaving Nvidia for AMD and hoping to upgrade my RTX 3060 TI to either a RX 7800 XT or above (will probably get a Sapphire Nitro+). I game at 1440p at 144hz. (don't really use raytracing) However I am also a content creator and spend a lot of time making videos and video editing as well as digital art. And I also plan on getting either a Meta Quest 2 or 3 for some PCVR gaming at some point too.

But I heard while RDNA 3 has improved a lot with its video editing performance, it still struggles when it comes to encoding, programs that use CUDA cores, as well as the RX 7000 card struggling with VR games at the beginning of it's release.

And while Nvidia does have DLSS and FG. I can't really tell the difference between it and FSR, and if I get something like a RX 7900 XTX, I probably won't need upscaling.

So TLDR, what are some of the drawbacks that the RX 7000 GPUs have compared to the RTX 4000s, and will it be too much of a hindrance?
