Even though I'm into PC tech and I build rigs regularly (even was my job), I came across something weird just recently and can't get my head around it.

So my father in law is not much of a tech guy (meaning: he doesn't know anything about this stuff and is not interested at all).He has an older rig that a former colleague of his built for him years ago, and lately he's been upset about it being too slow even for his needs (which is paying bills online and surfing the internet, like once a month or twice at most).

I checked the thing and it has the AMD A6-6400k APU + 4 gigs of RAM and a 120GB SSD, no wonder it's slow, even searching for one thing on a single Chrome tab takes time for it. I was thinking I'd just add another 4 gigs of RAM and call it a day since out of the 4 gigs only 3gb is free (thanks to the iGPU) and that's pretty much all used all the time, but then I checked task manager and it says the A6-6400k has only 1 core and 2 threads.Now that's weird because this CPU was advertised as a 2c/2t unit. Even though CPU-Z confirms that, since task manager doesn't, I'm guessing there's some fuckery here.

I'm wondering whether any of you know more about this APU in particular, is it one of those old AMD "misinformations" about CPU cores also present with the FX series, or is it really a 2 core 2 thread thing that isn't handled correctly by Win10? All I find on the internet about this is plain confusion. I'd like to know since if it really is a single core unit, then I'd probably be looking at replacing that with something a bit more beefy, too.
