The drivers from AMDs website are more up to date then the one from my motherboard manufacturer (MSI), but does it really matter if I do go for the drivers from AMDs website? What's the consesus on this?

Sometimes if I don't look at the version, I get confused because the MSI chipset driver release date is newer than the AMD website, even though the version on the MSI site is an earlier release. That being said, my chipset drivers (x570 Gaming Plus) also packages other drivers (on board video, audio, and network maybe?) so I notice that the size is larger than the AMD site. In the end I use the AMD chipset drivers because they are newer, and also more universal and standardized no matter what brand you use, so I trust that it should be more reliable than the ones from MSI.

But should i install that or stay with latest AMD site one 6.10.17.152

Processor is Ryzen 7 7700x with Radeon 7800XT OC 16GB

(Still Kinda new to AMD platform a bit still)

In my case I got MSI motherboard I tend to go first with their automatic update tool for everything and then get "latest" from amd to overwrite whatever the automatic updater from msi did. Idk

I've been searching the web for an while now and see people say that motherboard company drivers are custom made for each motherboard type (eg. my b550 a pro) and on the other hand i see people say that they don't do that any more and they just copy AMD official drivers and they are outdated.

I would like to know if there is consciences now, or is it complicated like perhaps both sides are true and some companies still make custom drives, and others just copy?

Or perhaps I completely miss understand everything either way i would love some feedback :D

AMD's website will always have the newest version. Theres no difference between what MSI hosts as the chipset driver and what AMD provides. The only exception to this rule is with laptops, sometimes manufacturers will customise them for special features that a laptop will have.

I've had my B650 Tomahawk for about 2.5 months now, and I'm wondering where I should get my chipset drivers from.

When I first got into Windows, the MSI driver utility installed the latest version from their site(5.01.29.2026). But now both me and my friend with the same chipset are starting to see individual driver updates in Windows Update:

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - System - 8.0.0.20
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. - SecurityDevices - 5.23.0.0

From what I can gather, "System - 8.0.0.20" is the latest version but "SecurityDevices - 5.23.0.0" is not?

Should I just wait for MSI to update their chipset drivers, go to AMD and download the latest chipset package or download these individual from Windows Update as they come? Will for example going the AMD route going cause issues with MSI's Driver Utility?

Disable driver updates from Windows Update because they will always install over the latest drivers from AMD and cause a shit ton of problems. For example, whenever Windows Update installs "new" display drivers for AMD GPUs, it breaks Adrenaline every time. Only get drivers from AMD, Nvidia, Intel, and Realtek. I never get my driver's from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, etc ...

I've had my PC for about 2 years now and have never had a problem with updates on my amd cpu before until now. I keep getting this error message every time I try to install it, and it says, "enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'AMD_Chipset_Drivers.msi' in the box below." But I have never seen this before and genuinely cannot figure it out. Would appreciate some help.

That might have been true once, but at least for off-the-shelf desktop motherboards no one customizes chipset drivers anymore. The manufacturers just mirror the drivers available from AMD / Intel and often they're not up to date relative to what's available directly from AMD / Intel.
