Yes, they are good. The open source AMD driver maintained in the kernel tree is the primary driver developed and supported by AMD. They also have a proprietary driver, but it’s really only needed for OpenCL support (GPU compute). NVIDIA’s proprietary driver is the only driver they support. The open source one is entirely community developed and maintained, so it will never be as functional as the proprietary one. Answer from ourob on reddit.com

THANK YOU FOR OPEN SOURCE DRIVERS!
Yes. I've been overly critical of AMD of late, but credit where credit's due, the driver support on Linux is nothing short of amazing. Even more Amazing is that AMD's improvements will help Intel's Xe on inux and Intel's improvements have already helped and will continue to help Radeon on Linux. Only nVidia misses out on the party. April 3, 2024 - Coming soon: Open sourcing additional portions of our software stack and more hardware documentation. ... this might be the direct result of the ongoing situation with tinycorp. tinycorp replied on this tweet with this: Looking for more specifics here and a timeline. Will the 7900XTX register map rai file be released? Will the firmware source for the MES, MEC, and SDMA be released? Is this an attempt to make the GPU better, or is this PR? to which AMD replied with a long "we won't opensource/release these".
