Excellent explanation of the Ryzen naming format:
It's outdated. Since then we have: Ryzen 9 - Prosumer X9XX - Prosumer GE - Low Power Mobile/Desktop APU E - Low Power Desktop CPU HS - High Performance 35W Mobile APU in high quality laptops approved by AMD C - Chromebook APUs? There are no T, S or M suffixes. More on reddit.com

AMD Ryzen name conventions!?
First digit is generation. x600 is 6 cores x700/800 8 cores x900 12 cores x950 16 cores That's just for desktops though. Mobile chips are a bigger mess. More on reddit.com

How on earth does AMD's naming scheme work?
For their mainstream desktop CPUs: 7 - Generation 6 - model identifier (bigger the better) 0 - placeholder / model identifier (bigger the better) 0 - placeholder X - Higher TDP 3D - 3D vcache: Higher gaming performance So the 7600X is a mid tier, "7th" generation Ryzen CPU; the 7700X is in the same generation, but better. AMD CPUs explained: Demystifying AMD's confusing product names
November 3, 2024 - Here, each letter and the suffix carry a specific purpose and meaning. Let’s break it down. ... The first digit indicates the generation’s model year. For instance, if the first digit is 7, it’s a 2023 model. Similarly, letter 8 shows that the CPU was unveiled in 2024 and so on. According to AMD, it’s a quicker way for a normal consumer to identify when the CPU was launched. The second digit refers to the family of processors.

r/pcmasterrace on Reddit: AMD Processor Naming Conventions (Explain it please)
October 30, 2024 -

Hey all, I’m sure I’ll get flamed for this but I finally decided to ask. Can someone please explain AMD’s processor naming conventions to me like I’m 5?

I have been a PC gamer since the 90s and I recently posted about my original Slot A Athon mobo/processor from the first pc I ever built. I was a long AMD fan, but switched to Intel along the way. To me, intel’s naming convention makes perfect sense, but somewhere AMD got me all screwed up.

Thanks all!

Yeah both naming schemes suck giga ass now that Intel rebranded their 15th gen to ultra 200 series haha. Hope you heard that already xD But for amd its also super fucked. On desktop cpus it’s different to laptop, and they started giving igpus to all chips from 7000 series or newer. Let me at least try to explain: The R3/5/7/9 is basically the same, the higher you go the more cores you get and they clock slightly faster. R3 4 cores. R5 mostly 6 cores. R7 8 cores. R9 12 or 16 cores. The starting number gives you the architecture/generation. 1000 series is zen1, 2000 is zen1+, 3000 and 4000 are zen2. 5000 and mobile 6000 are zen3. Then 7000 and 8000 are zen4, 9000 is zen5. The X or XT means more power consumption and tiny increase in clock speed. The G means this is a repurposed laptop chip with a bigger GPU inside, but having less cache (less on chip memory, very bad for gaming). The X3D part has more cache (very good for gaming and is super efficient) Then since 7000 series comes with a tiny iGPU like Intel always did the F series CPUs also exist where the iGPU is disabled, like a r5 7500f. The entire 8000 series is laptop based. The laptop naming scheme is giga fucked and you need to look at the third number: a 7840u is zen4 8 core, indicated by the third number. A 7630u would be a 6 core zen3 part. And here is the kicker. For zen5 laptop they are called Ryzen AI 9 365 🤯 thanks for nothing marketing. They confuse on purpose

March 31, 2024 - G: In earlier Ryzen CPU generations, ‘G’ indicated the inclusion of a dedicated graphics processor, as many chips lacked integrated graphics. However, in current iterations, all CPUs come equipped with integrated graphics, making the ‘G’ designation obsolete. F: Recently, the company introduced a new suffix with the 7000 series, indicating CPUs without an integrated GPU. X: This designation denotes a slightly better CPU in terms of clock speed and operating temperatures. X3D: In the Ryzen 5000 series, AMD introduced the new X3D technology, which layers an additional cache atop the CPU.
