I find that AMD tends to have better value. Especially if you go with the new AM5 platform, you’ll be able to upgrade the CPU in a few years without upgrading the motherboard. As far as performance and reliability goes, they’re both good options. Some game perform better with amd, some do better with intel, but I don’t get bogged down by that because I play more than just one specific game. Answer from GetEnPassanted on reddit.com

r/buildapc on Reddit: Intel VS AMD
December 20, 2024 -

Is Intel still a good choice for graphic work and video editing, or is AMD really the better option now?

I’ve asked a lot of people, and most PC enthusiasts recommend AMD Ryzen. But I’ve personally experienced issues with AMD in the past—like stuttering during video editing or slow rendering, frame drops when gaming with multiple monitors open, and frequent lag. Are these problems still a thing with AMD, or have they been resolved?

Here are the CPUs I’m currently considering:

  • Intel Core i7-14700K

  • Intel Core i5-14600K

  • Ryzen 7 7700X

  • Ryzen 9 7900X

I’ve excluded the Ryzen 7 9800X3D because it’s too hard to find and scalpers have pushed the price up. Since I’m not in the US, it’s not easy to get, and ordering from Amazon would bring the total cost to around $500. So, I’ve ruled it out.

For GPUs, I’m still deciding between:

  • RTX 4070 Ti Super

  • RX 7900 XT

My Use Cases:

  • Gaming + streaming to one or two platforms simultaneously.

  • Editing and posting YouTube videos.

Does anyone have recommendations or insights into these options?

Depends a lot on your specific workload and software. But I’ve personally experienced issues with AMD in the past—like stuttering during video editing or slow rendering, frame drops when gaming with multiple monitors open, and frequent lag. Are these problems still a thing with AMD, or have they been resolved? Those generally aren't a thing that'll be related to a specific CPU. GPU drivers maybe, and in some software Nvidia stuff is indeed still strongly preferred, but again, that depends a lot on what specific software you care about.

14700K and 9700X/7700X/7700 (these three are literally all the same. Difference between 9700X and 7700 is like 3%) are equal in gaming performance. 14600K also relatively similar, roughly 6% behind the 14700K/Ryzen 700. With the 9700X you could still upgrade in the future, whereas the 14700K is pretty much end of the line. Plus intel 13th and 14th gen were committing seppuku left and right until recently. Voltage was too high for the CPUs to handle ootb. This was a huge thing. Intel claimed they fixed it, but personally I wouldn't... Take a look at the gaming performance here: https://youtu.be/2mE4YEm2L-g?si=pgQPX00aq2UAsJEE 12:50 is the average. Truth is that outside of benchmarks you won't feel any difference between them though. As for the GPU, Nvidia has better RT and AMD offers better price/performance for rasterisation. So if you place a lot of value on using Raytracing, go for Nvidia. AMD doesn't suck in RT, but Nvidia is just clearly ahead for it. Otherwise AMD is kinda the better option.

I've been thinking about building my own PC, but I'm a little lost here since I've been an Intel boy my whole life, but now I want to get the best out of my money, and I see that there's an important percentage of builds using AMD processor and graphics.

My initial thought was just to go ahead with AMD if there's the best cost-benefit, but my problem is that I'm a vision engineer, I'm going to need to do some AI in this computer, and there's a major difference in documentation and support for Nvidia than for AMD in this area, but I also understand that there's a price gap between them two in terms of price vs performance, is it this difference big enough to ignore the AI situation and try to do it on AMD?

My budget is around 1200 to 1500 US dollars, I live in Michigan, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

r/GamingLaptops on Reddit: Tell me how AMD is better than Intel
May 2, 2025 -

I'm trying to convince myself that AMD is better than Intel and worth choosing in 2025. I definitely remember having a better experience with Intel when I last upgraded from AMD, but that was a long time ago. Even though the specs clearly show better performance from AMD, I still can't bring myself to order the AMD model over the Intel one.

Both laptops are the same price. The AMD one has a better screen (though I use an external monitor) and a higher resolution (which doesn't matter to me), but it's a newer model. The architecture looks better too. The keyboard isn't the layout I prefer, but since I use an external keyboard, that doesn't really matter unless I decide to sell it.

I plan to upgrade to 32GB RAM. I use Stable Diffusion, play games, and want to try Cities Skylines 2. I'd also like GTA VI to run once it's out for PC.

I was waiting for the Strix to drop to 3000 BGN (~1500 euros), but it jumped today from ~3300 to 4300 BGN (insane ~500 EUR more). What would you say about these two options?

Looking into builds for a friend and deciding on a CPU. He wants to go with an Intel i5 14400 since someone told him thats the best bang for his buck at his budget and what hes looking for. I have heard ryzen is much better for the cost, but on the CPU benchmarks, it does seem like intel is much better than AMD chips in the 200 dollar price range?

I don't know if its true or not but I have seen bad reviews on the Intel Core -i7-14700KF and I'm just wondering if I should just go with the AMD Ryzen 9 7900 or something that compares to it and around the same price point.

AMD absolutely for any general purpose gaming PC these days. Intel only makes sense for budget builds when you're buying those chips on steep discount and get the proper cooling to accompany it. Both AMD and Intel perform decently in modern games. You won't deeply regret purchasing either, but for upgradability go AMD.

I keep reposting this... but whatever, I'll just give you my take on the matter. I recently decided to upgrade my PC. (August 2024) I had an I7-8700 that was fantastic but wanted to jump a few generations to increase performance. I have loved intel so I went with the I7-13700k with a new MOBO and some 32GB DDR5 ram. After swapping everything and firing it up I had nothing but crashes and BSOD. During games, at idol, and the error codes were all over the place. After updating bios with all the intel instability fixes and making sure all the fun stuff was turned off on the CPU it still crashed every 30 min or so... While under the Amazon 30 day warranty I decided to pull out all the new hardware and do a 180 switch to an AMD build. I went with a Ryzen 9 7900x, AMD5 socket MOBO and new ram just in case. Since changing everything to AMD I haven't had a single problem. It just runs and it runs well. I've always loved Intel but this last go round they burned me good with their 13/14th gen problems that they are trying to hide and say it isn't a problem. I will probably not go back to Intel and am happy with AMD. You do you! But that's my story!

Reading through here because I need to make a rather cheap upgrade to my 8700k+mobo due to some hardware problem I've been chasing

I see that the vast majority are going for AMD. I've built my pc's forever and I'm very used to the intel nomenclature and I'd rather not switch unless it's the logical approach

Why are virtually no people buying intel? Are we still in the degenerating CPU saga of the last generation of intel cpu's and they are not safe to buy still? I'd go with a mid-line new generation intel with a MSI overclockable motherboard. Thank you

r/buildmeapc on Reddit: AMD vs Intel for Gaming PCs in 2025: Which CPU Should You Pick?
July 30, 2025 -

I’m planning to build a new gaming PC in 2025, and I’m torn between AMD and Intel CPUs. I’ve been digging into comparisons, and it seems like AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 9800X3D are dominating gaming benchmarks with their 3D V-Cache tech, offering killer frame rates in titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring. Intel’s Core i9-14900K and Core Ultra 9 285K, on the other hand, seem to shine in single-threaded performance and integrated graphics, but they’re pricier and less power-efficient. For those of you who’ve built or upgraded recently, what’s your take for gaming on AMD vs Intel in 2025? Are AMD’s X3D chips worth the hype for pure gaming, or does Intel still have an edge in certain scenarios? How much do factors like price, power consumption, or future-proofing (e.g., AMD’s AM5 socket longevity) sway your choice? Any pitfalls to avoid, like Intel’s reported instability issues or AMD’s stock shortages? Share your builds or experiences

Anyone here tried both? What do you recommend?

I'm on the process of upgrade my PC. Currently I'm looking to get a new motherboard and CPU and comes the question, intel or AMD. It's to pair up with a rtx 5070 ti. Psu is 850w 80 + gold. Case I will upgrade to a nzxt h7 flow with arctic water cooling. Budget for CPU will be around 250-300€.

So far I've been looking to get a gigabyte motherboard, the b760 gaming X ddr4 + i5-14600kf. Main purpose gaming and work. Mostly gaming. Upgrading to RAM ddr5 is out of the question for now since the prices... Well everyone knows.

*Retitle: Im confused and about the big AMD and Intel and actual performances

I have looked around and ive always used Intels i9 & i7 series,However more recently alot of people and reviews say different things, about "what is best".Ive looked into the Ryzen 7 & 9 series (7000's) and they make similar or not more hardware performance than intels current gens (from what ive seen by 5-10%).

The issue i have is ive had amd products before, and i have amd GPU now. Ive had such immense issues with their drivers, software, bugs and more. Surely i can deny the power of their hardware but when it doesnt work i get so frustrated... so i hear alot of AMD this Intel that. But is it nowadays just more to taste?

I will never have a AMD Gpu for the forseeable future, however i dont know anything about their CPUs, there i want honest reviews and stuff since i cannot be spending so much money into a rig and then have to trace bugs and drivers for non functioning "softwarefunctions/intellegens".. especially when its going to run on boost clock speeds.

So what is ur recommendations?

Tech i've been looking at high end spectrum, compared to a 4080-4090 setup:

13700k (f), 13900k (f), 7800X3d, 7900X, 7950x, 7950x3dAnd ive really been looking at the difference between 7800x3d and i7 13700k and i9 13900k

Intel's internal GPUs have some better features for video decoding/encoding. However, this isn't worth mentioning if you have a video card. Intel also has better Virtualization features. If you don't know what this means, don't worry about it. Intel is MUCH easier to get Thunderbolt 3/4 support for. Intel used to have exclusive rights to Thunderbolt, so in the past AMD was not able to offer it. Today, Thunderbolt is available to both companies, but there are not many motherboards for AMD that offer it.

AMD has the added benefit of longer support for older chipsets, so you can stretch your mobo farther if you're one to upgrade your processor every couple years. Ryzen 1000 launched in 2017, and a lot of the launch (non-budget) motherboards got Bios updates that took them all the way into the 5000 series CPUs last year. With the new AM5 stuff, they've promised to support the AM5 through 2025, so everyone is assuming/hoping that means we can upgrade our CPU 2 generations past the generation of our AM5 launch boards. Intel only ever does 2 generations on a given socket (launch gen 12, upgrade CPU to gen 13, gotta get a new mobo if you want a gen 14 chip, for example). Right now (AM5) AMD chips are also a little down on their price-to-performance of their Intel counterparts (13th gen), but they are more power efficient. That makes them theoretically easier to cool. They can also be pretty heavily tweaked with undervolting/power limiting to push efficiency/cooling even further, and counter-intuitively this can actually yield better performance from stock. That's assuming you're comfortable/willing to mess with stuff like that. Out of the box, Intel is doing better as long as you cool them.
