r/SuggestALaptop on Reddit: Deciding Between Ryzen 7 and Snapdragon X — Which Laptop Would You Choose?
November 7, 2025 -
Hi everyone, I’m choosing between two Lenovo laptops mainly for browsing, Excel work, and learning to code (a bit of gaming maybe, but not the high end ones ).
Option 1: Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3X 15.3″ Copilot+ (Snapdragon X / 16 GB RAM / 512 GB SSD / Windows 11)
Option 2: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15.6″ Touchscreen (AMD Ryzen 7 5825U / 16 GB RAM / 512 GB SSD)
Which would you recommend for better long-term performance. Also open to other laptop suggestions in the $550–$650 CAD range if there’s a better option out there.

Both Chips aren't too different. The Snapdragon is around the same power as the Ryzen, but it has way better power efficiency. This data is shown on nanoreview (I'll leave a link at the end). I'd go for the Snapdragon between the two. If you then want to add the Intel Core i5-1335U into the mix, the intel will be stronger in both graphical and processor heavy tasks, meaning it'll be better for light gaming and coding. Though it does have worse power efficiency then the snapdragon (will affect battery life a little more than the snapdragon). Since your priority is performance, then I go for the Intel Core i5-1335U, or any other Intel i5 chips around that. There's some really good laptops in your price range that also have graphics cards too. You can check out some laptops that match your needs here on Plample - Laptops for coding, Excel and light gaming Also, here are the nanoreview comparions for the snap dragon and Ryzen. Snapdragon AMD Ryzen Intel i5 - https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu/intel-core-i5-1335u Hope that helps :)

Are Snapdragon X Elite chips that much better on battery power than AMD and Intel? I tested them all to find out. | Laptop Mag
May 9, 2025 - Using the "Best Performance" profile, Intel's chips barely take a performance dip across Geekbench 6, Cinebench R23, Handbrake 4K to 1080p video encoding, and 3DMark. And that's something neither Qualcomm nor AMD can really say. The Snapdragon X Elite takes a multicore performance hit in Geekbench 6 when on battery at "Best Performance," as does AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ chipset.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite vs Intel and AMD: The Future of Windows Laptop Battery Life | Windows Forum
May 10, 2025 - Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite performs at the top tier for unplugged endurance, especially in “everyday” use cases involving web, office, and multimedia streaming. Intel Core Ultra 200V can deliver high, almost desktop-like performance on battery under aggressive power settings, with only modest drops in the most demanding tests—though actual endurance will depend on battery size and system design. AMD Ryzen’s newest chips bring tremendous multicore power and AI acceleration but might not last as long unplugged under the heaviest workflows, especially in productivity laptops designed for peak performance pools.
