Edit: I Think I'm going to put UNPOPULAR OPINION here as a disclaimer. haha Clearly, it's a lot more unpopular here than I anticipated. But that's ok. I'm up for discussion and debate.
I'm a little skeptical. I'm hoping this movie will be more family friendly than Barbie. I get that adults love these properties too, but lately it is getting harder and harder to find movies I can watch with my little cousins, nieces, and nephews. The Barbie movie was a little too raunch-com for our kids and had a lot of inappropriate scenes. I couldn't even take my whole family to see it (which was disappointing for me) because of the reviews warning. When I officially saw it on digital they were kind of right. I know this is an unpopular opinion because Barbie is very liked by many, but that is the one down side of having IP's for kids becoming too adult: it makes it harder for people with kids in their families to enjoy together. While it might work for Barbie (because she has always been seen as a teenager or an adult), American Girls have always been portrayed as kids. I don't think I want an overly edgy doll franchise from AG.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on all of this? I feel like Mattel is going to milk this to see how far they can go with their intellectual properties. Hopefully, they do not ruin AG by catering too much to the adult fanbase. Kids need good things as well.

Barbie was never intended to be a kids movie. It was very clearly aimed at adults. It's an amazing movie, but sadly people saw Barbie and instantly thought it was for kids. For American girl I hope they'll go with a more kid-friendly theme. Something both kids and adults can enjoy, without inappropriate jokes. Like you said, these are kids. I'm hoping for some fun times with the historical girls, maybe a time traveler plot or something? I also hope they don't age them up. Just keep them their original ages.

I think for the AG movie it probably won't be the kind of movie to have like "edgy" jokes like the Barbie movie had, one like you said since they are children, also I don't think the source material really leads to jokes like that, I think if they did go for trying to be a comedy it will creep into seeming like an snl skit. I don't really know what to expect or what I'd even want from an AG movie I just hope they have people that care about AG making it and not treat it like a cash grab or a joke, like I think the Barbie movie did a pretty good job at feeling genuine to me so if its anything like that I think I'll be happy with it!

Here is another thing that might be affecting the release of the movies. Cartoon Network and HBO are owned by Warner Brothers Discovery. They are trying to cut costs. There is an article about it from Oct. 2022 (link below). MarVista Entertainment and Mattel are the ones producing the movies, but it was Cartoon Network and HBO that released the photos of the movies. Why they be posting pics of the movie if they didn't own the rights to the movie? Was HBO and Cartoon Network helping to finance the AG movies? The website, Collider, said this in the article about the 2 AG movies: " HBO Max and Cartoon Network have today announced that they are bringing the beloved American Girl franchise to their networks in an attempt to bring a younger demographic to the streaming platform. They have just greenlit two sixty-minute live action specials based on Mattel's American Girl line, which includes an extensive range of different dolls, each with different backgrounds that help children to learn about different points in history." According to this link, there was supposed to be 2 AG movies. The article date is May 2022, Corinne was supposed to be on TV in December ( guessing Dec. 2022). The second movie was supposed to be on HBO Max in 2023. Seems late in 2023 for Corinne's movie. Mattel shouldn't have waited so late for a GOTY movie. Can't find anything that says they scrapped it.
