I’m based in Canada and considering getting the Bonvoy Amex. The Canadian Bonvoy Amex doesn’t have no FX fees. I’m willing to pre-pay for the entire hotel stay on the app when booking so I can be charged in CAD and charge it to the Bonvoy Amex. But when I do the initial search it shows me the pricing in CAD, and when I’m going to check out, it always turns into the local currency of the hotel and wants to charge me in the local currency of the hotel. Is it not possible to book through the Bonvoy app/website and be charged in your local currency? I’ve never seen this with other hotel groups before, you normally get charged in your local currency if you pre-pay online.
If I’m not able to pre-pay for the hotel stay in CAD, then the Bonvoy card won’t be worth it for me because bulk of my travel which is personal is overseas and not in Canada and I’ll be incurring a lot of FX fees just to be loyal to Bonvoy and their card.

Am I missing something? It’s worth noting that even if you can find a way to get charged in CAD, you’re still likely going to be paying “more”. - Marriott isn’t going to charge you the cash/sticker exchange rate. There will be some markup there to cover fluctuations. So either you’re paying AMEX for the exchange or Marriott. In general though, it’s usually cheaper to pay in local currency (local to the property) regardless of your card. Typically preferred ranking: 1 - Local currency on no FX card 2 - Local currency on standard card 3 - Cardholder domestic currency (seller exchange rate)
