Anchor did the same thing to me. When I contacted them about it, they claimed I was using bots to somehow artificially bump my podcast listeners. I have no idea how to do any of that stuff and when I pressed them further, they claimed my podcast was artificially generated. WTF, Anchor? I wrote and recorded everything on that podcast. I was only one episode in so no great loss but I highly doubt I will be using them to host another podcast in the future.

Thanks for posting... I use Anchor and have used other hosting services like Libsyn in the past. I have zero complaints about Libsyn - they're an excellent service, but I think most hosting services will not offer much in terms of editing services or ad placement. Anchor is one of the few that does, but of course they're going to be very limited when you compare them to a DAW like Audition and/or direct sponsorship deals. I can't bash too hard on something that provides basic hosting, unlimited storage, and easy distribution for free though. My initial concerns were surrounding the question, "who owns my content if Anchor hosts it for free?" Once I had confirmation in writing from their support team that I still own my content, Anchor does exactly what I expect it to at zero cost while I record and edit in other software, whether it's for an audiodrama, interview-based show, or other. The only feature I wish they would add is within their monetization model. I have used their Anchor ads twice now. The first time, my ad played until I got over the $50 mark in my "Anchor Wallet" and then the ad just stopped accruing money (even though it was still playing the ad on my show). After multiple messages going back and forth with their support team, I was told that the ad was only for a limited number of impressions, and that it basically expired. This was a big problem for me... I definitely don't want to use ads for free! I recently began using their ad placement again, and after it accrued a bit over $100 (it's now over $140 and still running), I thought I'd reach out to support again since I wasn't informed of many details about their model except that it was a CPM model (and the dollar amount)... I was simply asked to record an ad with points A, B, and C in my own voice. While their support team couldn't tell me the terms of the current ad I was running (which I thought was odd), they explained that various advertisers used different models. Some are CPM based, some are for a limited time, and some only pay out a certain amount of money as a cap. When I further explained that the ad was for Anchor, and not for an affiliate, they still couldn't give me complete information on those details for my current ad. They were able to tell me that it's a CPM model, but could not tell me how long it would accrue income or if there was a cap. So I found myself checking my expectations once again using their free service. The problem I had with my first ad was that it kept playing on my show long after it stopped accruing revenue. In other words, it forced me to devalue the deal and give free advertising out until I chose to pull it down. Their support team informed me that wasn't supposed to happen, and the ad should stop once the campaign is maxed out. So I'm thinking it could have been a glitch in their system. If it happens again, I may opt out of using Anchor-based ads altogether, but I'm willing to give them a second chance. Either way, they aren't required to be utilized in exchange for free hosting. There's nothing from preventing me to obtain other advertising sponsors on my own, and my show is at the point in downloads that if I were still using a paid service, I'd have to pay more per month to host the show than most basic plans cover to account for a higher volume of downloads and/or storage. Considering the last response from their support team, I hope they take my feedback and make some changes, but you never know... I'll quote a portion of their response here: "I completely understand that more information about specific end dates or impression/revenue caps would be helpful and maybe even add to your experience with Anchor. I'm passing that feedback along to our Ad Ops team as we continue to improve podcasting with Anchor." I'll stick with them for now... I still don't know of many other podcast hosts that make running ads so seamless for monetization, but they have some work to do with transparency of terms in this light. More on reddit.com
