r/hamiltonmusical on Reddit: Angelica Schuyler Church's Death.
June 17, 2023 -
I am as they say a typical Hamilton fan. And I dug in and learned their social histories and social circles. However, I cannot find how in God's name Angelica Schuyler Church died....I'm thinking possible suicide due to lack of records but that's me reaching. Can someone who has more resources help with this? I just need to know!

Remember how primitive medicine was even in the 1820's compared to today. People still die seemingly at random and germ theory didn't take off until the 1860's in France. Like half of our early Presidents died from illnesses that could have been survivable in the modern day, including James Garfield's GSW. Chances are she died from some diesase unknown at the time.

Well the tiny bit in the newspaper that announced her death simply just said "On Sunday evening last, Mrs Angelica Church, wife of John B. Church, (Big, Biq? Idk what it says) in the 58th year of her age" so probably natural causes or an underlying condition 🤷

September 15, 2025 - Though the details of what occurred are not clear from a modern medical perspective, historian Ron Chernow similarly attributed the sudden and extreme deterioration of Angelica's mental health to her reaction to the death of Philip, with whom she had been very close. Other modern authors have described the mental health problem, which lasted for the rest of Angelica's life, without discussion of causation.

July 1, 2020 - No one is disputing Hamilton's life was a remarkable one: He was born out of wedlock on a Caribbean island, immigrated to New York to pursue an education, served as an aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, helped shape the U.S. Constitution and America's financial system while serving as the nation's first Secretary of the Treasury, and then died from a duel with the vice president of the United States, Aaron Burr. ... While the play's creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has delivered Hamilton his long-overdue public acclaim, many other historical figures are overlooked or represented in a less-than-flattering manner throughout the production.
