September 15, 2025 - Though the details of what occurred are not clear from a modern medical perspective, historian Ron Chernow similarly attributed the sudden and extreme deterioration of Angelica's mental health to her reaction to the death of Philip, with whom she had been very close. Other modern authors have described the mental health problem, which lasted for the rest of Angelica's life, without discussion of causation.

She passed away on March 13, 1814 at the age of 58 and was buried in Trinity Churchyard in lower Manhattan, near the graves of her sister and her brother-in-law, following her wish. After her death, her husband moved back to England, where he died in 1818. Angelica Schuyler Church earned the title of America's first heartthrob and has often been described as "Muse, Confidante, and thief of hearts."

Though it was increasingly obvious that something was wrong with Angelica after 1801, she remained loved and cared for her by family and friends. Hamilton, eager to keep his daughter happy, included in his 29 December 1802 letter requesting seeds from Charles Cotesworth Pinckney: “My daughter2 adds another request, which is for three or four of your peroquets. She is very fond of birds.” Philip Schuyler also remained eager to see his granddaughter.

At a special spot on the Genesee River, a town was laid out with designs reminiscent of Paris. Philip named the new town after his mother Angelica. The town is still there until today.
